hey, sup, big fan, love your site.
To skip the blah blah, i have been looking around the web a lot and though i try and try i cannot find a Warrior build based on 'Protection'.
I do not necessarily mean 31 pts protection, as i hear Mortal Strike is vital, but i think, especially because 1H weapons are more viable now (with the MS change) there could be more/something you could make out of the Protection tree.
Any thoughts on a Prot/Arms build or a prot/fury build?
I hear nurfed is the site where "the" warrior experts hang out so, i'd appreciate your opinions.
Example:
Protection Mastery
Anticipation Rank 5
Improved Bloodrage Rank 2
Toughness Rank 5
Iron Will Rank 4
Last Stand Rank 1
Improved Revenge Rank 3
Protection Total: 20
Arms Mastery
Improved Heroic Strike Rank 2
Improved Rend Rank 3
Improved Charge Rank 2
Tactical Mastery Rank 5
Improved Thunder Clap Rank 2
Improved Overpower Rank 2
Anger Management Rank 1
Deep Wounds Rank 3
Impale Rank 2
Sweeping Strikes Rank 1
Mace Specialization Rank 5
Improved Hamstring Rank 2
Mortal Strike Rank 1
Arms Total: 31
thoughts?
btw: the cards will win the NFC west in 2005 in case anyone cares.

the only problem with that build is you fail to get peircing howl and it is probably one of the best talents we have. currently the only viable Defence buils makes you go deep into it and then dip into the other 2 trees to get tactical mastery and peircing howl.

Okay, thanks for the info.
I thought of something else too and that is go way up the defensive tree, to get shield disc and 1hand spec, and than go arms up till i get 2H spec.
But i guess those 5% do not mean all that much if i consider i cannot take piercing howl either...

If you want to go for Protection, try something like this:
Fury Mastery
Cruelty Rank 5
Improved Demoralizing Shout Rank 5
Piercing Howl Rank 1
Fury Total: 11
Protection Mastery
Anticipation Rank 5
Improved Bloodrage Rank 2
Iron Will Rank 5
Improved Revenge Rank 3
Improved Sunder Armor Rank 3
Improved Disarm Rank 3
Improved Shield Wall Rank 2
Improved Shield Bash Rank 2
Concussion Blow Rank 1
Protection Total: 26
Arms Mastery
Deflection Rank 5
Improved Charge Rank 2
Tactical Mastery Rank 5
Improved Overpower Rank 2
Arms Total: 14
has all the "must haves", should be solid an do the job for a Def. Warrior.
The 2 Points in Improved Charge maybe can be spend somewhere else.

here is what i posted on the blizz forums shortly after patch notes released.
it relies heavily on being able to micromanage, but as with any blizzard game to excell you need to have the skill.

Increases your Parry chance by 5%.
Tactical Mastery - 5/5 points
You retain up to 25 of your rage points when you change stances.
Improved Charge - 2/2 points
Increases the rage generated by your Charge ability by 6.
Anger Management - 1/1 point
Increases the time required for your Rage to decay while out of combat by 30%.
Improved Overpower - 2/2 points
Increases the critical strike chance of your Overpower ability by 50%.
Fury Talents (11 points)
Cruelty - 5/5 points
Increases your chance to get a critical strike with melee weapons by 5%.
Improved Demoralizing Shout - 5/5 points
Increases the attack power reduction of your Demoralizing Shout by 25%.
Piercing Howl - 1/1 point
Causes all enemies near the warrior to be dazed for 6 seconds.
Protection Talents (25 points)
Shield Specialization - 5/5 points
Increases your chance to block attacks with a shield by 5%.
Iron Will - 5/5 points
Increases your chance to resist stun and charm effects by 15%.
Improved Revenge - 3/3 points
Gives your Revenge ability a 40% chance to stun the target for 3 seconds.
Improved Shield Block - 3/3 points
Allows your Shield Block ability to block an additional attack, and increases the duration by 2 seconds.
Improved Disarm - 3/3 points
Increases the duration of your Disarm ability by 3 seconds.
Improved Sunder Armor - 3/3 points
Increases the armor reduction of your Sunder Armor by 30%.
Improved Shield Wall - 2/2 points
Increases the effect duration of your Shield Wall ability by 5 seconds.
Concussion Blow - 1/1 point
A brutal strike that deals weapon damage and stuns the opponent for 5 seconds.
I found that the defensive skill tree is WAY more effective than origionally believed. I have not lost a duel yet since this build. It also made me realize that for any build of warrior tactical mastery is a must, b/c otherwise we can only use 1/3 of our skills efficiently. i have found that shieldblock/revenge when upgraded gives you a 40% chance to stun for 3 secs, and when the skill only costs 5 rage you can easily spam the skill and leave them almoast dead in the water..... another important part of the build is sunder armor. I use this as my main attack now instead of HS simply b/c i can reduce a paladins armor to leather, and a rogue's to cloth. now with your 3 sec stun from revenge you have a chance to cast 2 slam's. whitch is way more effective than waiting 3+ secs for my axe to swing once. add disarm and another 6 sec stun and you can see why this build is highly effective. and with the introduction of pummel back into the warriors skills next patch it will only make this build more effective. however if you cant micromanage and create your own macros dont bother with this build, b/c you will probably fail miserably.
another perk for my character is the fact that b/c i am an orc. i now have a 40% chance to resist stun effects. I cannot tell you how many times a palladin has used hammer of justice, i resist and he starts running b/c he gets scared.
any input, constructive criticism, flames...... i am open..... just trying to help.

If you go Protection you will be mainly Instance-Tank anyway, thats why you need Shield Discipline. If you go PvP and "just want to use some protection talents", you could try a Stunner (Tauren, Mace Spec, Conc Blow and go for Dark Iron Pulverizer as Weapon). The Talents just work out fine with everything important on Arms (deflection, impr charge, impr overpower, tactical mastery, deep wounds, mace spec 5/5) and Protection like anticipation, impr bloodrage, toughness iron will 1/5, last stand, impr revenge, impr disarm, shieldbash, conc blow. And still 3 points left for cruelty.
You got some pretty good disablers going on (use a makro to equip shield for shieldbash). Should be weak(er) solo.
But in the end, Arms & Fury would be better.
