For PvP I sometimes need to move myself so far away so that I am out of range of an Earthshock for example, is there a way (probably with the use of another mod) to add range to the unitframes?

To my knowledge something like this isn't possible. It was at one point (like back in beta) but Blizz took away the functionality for it.
You can have buttons go red,
but range is impossible

impossible is nothing
ctraid addons support a range check
http://www.wowinterface.com/downloads/fileinfo.php?id=4433
the function is simple , ctraid have for each raidmember a button
like ctraidmember1 ctraidmember2 .... ctraidmember40

All that does is tell you if they're in range or not of the current spell you have selected.
What the OP is asking for is a numerical value for how far away he is from his target. That is no longer possible.
not possible. it's been removed/block whatever by blizzard.
You can get range on party/raid members AFAIK.

Yes it is possible to get the range to your party/raid in the outside world using coordinates, but not in instances.
