2h sword's double hit talent can proc off of a double hit ... leading to the maximum dps :)

This is assuming all top tier weapons across weapon types are equal, which is not true.

It is rather pointless to worry about "choosing" one 2 hander to go with, unless you are planning to take the talent spec for that particular weapon. While you are obviously free to do this the consensus is that it is a bit of a waste. The 2 handed spec talent blankets all of them, and while it may not be as appealing as the 6% double attack or whatever I would say that the 5 additional talents you would spend on sword spec are better spent elsewhere.

If you are really serious about taking a weapon spec talent as opposed to just 2h spec then I would suggest axe or polearm for the late game, at this point the vast majority of top end weapons (meaning high max damage slow speed) are axe or polearm.

Keep in mind of course that there are some *awesome*(cough) warrior changes coming up, and that there will be new items in new instances and raid encounters, so what is uber today may not be tomorrow. In my mind this lends more credence to the blanket effect of 2h spec, but it may just mean you will have to take a wait and see approach :P.
