View Full Version : Changing Undead Shoulder Size - A Guide
Wagelol
06-09-2006, 02:42 PM
Some of you know that Undead shoulders used to be much larger at release, and at one point were changed to a much smaller size. Well I finally figured out how to get my precious shoulders back, and so I come bearing gifts.
http://www.whataboutpp.com/users/wage/udshoulders.jpg
If you're like me, you want the old shoulders. Here's how:
1. Download this rar file, which contains an Undead model file (ScourgeMale.m2) : http://www.whataboutpp.com/users/wage/UDShoulders.rar
2. Unzip the folders + model file as is, into your World of Warcraft\Data\ folder. The result should look like - World of Warcraft\Data\Character\Scourge\Male\ScourgeMale.m 2
Simple as that. There is one caveat though, the animation for the Cannibalize ability will now be a /kneel animation. It's a small price to pay for bigger shoulders.
If there are any hick-ups, let me know. Enjoy.
P.S. Thanks Ziot!

Doesn't seem to work after the patch. Any ideas?
Hmm I keep striking out to find a way around it. Have you guys tried replacing the file directly in the MPQ via WinMPQ?
hellspawnhere
06-22-2006, 05:26 PM
I tried replacing files in the MPQ. For those of you who are also thinking of trying this... DONT!
I myself was replacing the void walker model with something a bit smaller (gnome + void = loose). Everything went fine till i loaded the game. Logged in, picked my lock, went to loading screen.. the bar got to the end and then bam! WoW crashed. Gave me a nice "MPQ corrupted" error. I replaced the model with the original and tried again. Same error. So at that point, i couldnt play, at all.
I had to use the "repair" tool that wow comes with. Reason i use qoutes there is because all it did was unpatch the game back to 1.0. After downloading the full 1.11 patch and repatching, i tried again. Same deal.
So my conclusion is one of two:
Blizz implemented a check on the mpq's checksum/filesize/etc
or
WinMPQ isnt compatible with WoW's mpq format (perhaps blizz updated it?)
If anyone is brave enough to try what I did and get different results, please by all means let us know!

I just now signed up to reply to this... shouldn't you feel all special :p
Anyways, Yes... WinMPQ does seem to muck things up.
There's another MPQ editor out there, MPQ Workshop that seems to work well enough for the original files (model, textures, etc.) However, it cannot open the patch.mpq due to it's apparently new encryption or whatever. And changing the models in the model.mpq doesn't seem to do anything as they seem to be taking reference for those in the patch.mpq as of 1.11.
Good news? Textures you can still fart around with with MPQ Workshop(There's also MPQ Master... which I've oddly haven't had as good of luck with either), and a few BLP2/TGA converters(if you want to edit the textures to your own desires) without mucking anything up as bad like that again.
Bad news? You'll probably have to wait until somebody comes out, or the developers of MPQ Workshop, with a patch for 1.11
More good news... MyWarcraftStudio has a patch out for 1.11 to open the patch.mpq. Also, there doesn't seem to be a hash check for the texture files. I've edited a few to end up slightly larger/smaller, and Warcraft doesn't seem to be detecting it.
Just... advice. For some reason, if you specifically delete anything in the .mpq, it tends to go ape-shit and not load right. Replacing files with the MPQ Workshop, however, seems to work just fine.
And... Always, ALWAYS make an original backup of whatever file you're farting around with. The largest file is a bit over a gig. Hopefully if you had enough space for the game, you can squeeze in a bit extra to backup one of the mpq's that you want to edit.
*update(wow, that was fast, eh?)
Since 1.11 WoW will no longer look in the data folder for model/sound swapping.
The workaround?
1. Open mywarcraftstudio
2. In menu go to: pack -> create mpq archive. Call it whatever you want, doesn't matter
(EDIT: Apparently it must be called the same as an existing mpq, but with a number 0-9 behind it eg. speech2.mpq or patch2.mpq.)
3. Add your files to swap into the mpq, make sure you enter the right folder location
4. Open WoW

hmm well
for my troll to be undead again is a must, i can't play troll anymore etc
named a new MPQ file model2.mpq, then tried winmpq to put the TrollFemale.m2 in the Character\Troll\Female\ directory inside model2.mpq, but isnt working
I can get Mywarcraftstudio to put the m2 files in the MPQ file, but i can't seem to get it to allocate a filepath such as Character\Troll\Female to the file.. so I had to try winmpq
have they changed the place were it looks for the models to patch.mpq? it used to be model..
can anyone help here?
Edit: i think i have the pathfile correct for trollfemale.m2 in my model2.mpq, but still no luck, have they changed the default file that WoW reads character models to from model.mpq to patch.mpq?
Nossy
06-25-2006, 11:35 AM
Ya, they changed the models to patch.mpq.
Considering the similarities, you might be able to just change the model2.mpq you made to patch2.mpq, and it might still take.
As for the long file names... I've noticed Mywarcraftstudio seems to have a problem with this. For me, I use the MWS to create the mpq, and use MPQ Workshop to add the files by creating the heirarchy needed as a folder, and dragging/dropping into where it needs to be.
i.e: making an entire folder set of Character\Troll\Male\TrollMale.m2 and dragging the character folder right into the MPQ editor. This doesn't seem to work with Mywarcraftstudio, because you still need to rename it.
This might prove easier if you just recreate all the paths needed for the texture files as well, and throw them in with MPQ Workshop or some other editor that allows dragging and dropping a file directory.

hmm, tried renaming my model2.mpq that i made to patch2.mpq and still no go
im 99% sure the pathname of the m2 file INSIDE the mpq is correct also
any ideas?
Nossy
06-25-2006, 12:08 PM
hmmm, if you're trying to change the female troll, the path inside the patch2.mpq should be as follows:
CHARACTER\Troll\Female\TrollFemale.m2
The patch.mpq is kind of odd... so I'd advise to make sure everything is case-sensitive, just in case.
I'll fart around with the dwarf/NE models just to see what I can do. Write back here if you get it working.
Oh, and you might need to make a seperate .mpq if you're changing the textures as well. Otherwise I've come to think that it's the model that references the textures(as in the case when I changed the model of a summoned imp to that of the Lich King... didn't need to swap textures) If you already did this pre-1.11-patch, then it should just be a matter of dragging/dropping the Character folder with the changed textures in it right in the texture2.mpq.

Thanks, and about the textures, well that'd be great, but for now im just trying to get it working with the model, once I have the model, ill move onto the textures :)
I tried both upper and lower case for the filenames, still no luck (yes the file i'm using is definetly a UD model in a trollfemale.m2 file, check out these images, see if you can see anything wrong

While we're on the topic, I use Mywarcraftstudio and when I look to switch around weapon models and textures it doesnt show anything 'new' aka nothing from any raid instance above UBRS for some reason. All old weapons and armor, pretty much no raid instance epics in there except a gimp looking Thunderfury, dunno why. Mywarcarftstudio takes the stuff directly from the MPQ files in WoW so why this would work out this way doesn't make sense. Anyone know why?

model > model NEEDED!!
You have to use dashes.
Patch-2.MPQ is the correct name. The client is completely case sensitive so you are going to have to be careful how you name things or it will crash. There is really no point at having a temporary fix because this will be fixed pretty soon because of how widespread it got.
The correct path is: "Character\Scourge\Male\ScourgeMale.m2"

i tried putting the textures in the same patch 2 file, but no luck
texture-1.mpq perhaps?

I have a problem and i'm not sure what the workaround is.
Let's say I'm trying to change my helm graphic from the alliance pvp version to the horde one. The problem is that when i open up Mywarcraftstudios and try to input the new pathname of the file, i simply dont have enough room to type it all out.
I.E. Open MWCS - edit MPQ archive - patch-2.mpq - add file to archive - and then boom, i run out of room to type "Item/ObjectComponents/funkyhordehelm.m2"
I'll get to "Item/ObjectComponents/funkyh" or something before it cuts out on me. Any suggestions or ideas?

i just got one question, i used to switch models in 1.10 and nowadays i know the method is completely different and i think i have figured out how its working but all i want to know is HOW do you create folders in your .MPQ file? I hope i can get an answer ASAP, im not even sure my theory of how this is suppose to work is right but i thought i should wrote anyways and maybe i can get a answer of my question.
thx.
i know how to do it now i think, but i got a problem, if you wanna change model on your character like a troll to UD, someone said that you should name the .MPQ patch-2 and in my /Data folder there allready is a .MPQ file named Patch-2 containing some Naxx thingies etc. Should i add Character/Scourge/Male/ScourgeMale.m2 into Patch-2 and if, how will i do that cuz it seems like cant transfer it into Patch-2 the way i tried to.
How will i fix this? I would really appriciate some help.

I'd create a file named patch-3.mpq for your custom changes :>
I switched weapon models by using MyWarCraftStudio v0.8, available in the comments section on curse-gaming
http://www.curse-gaming.com/en/wow/addons-657-1-mywarcraftstudio.html
Its working fine with WoW 1.11 :)
Okey, thx, i have one more problem tho. Are you suppose to take the UD model and rename it to the Troll model, cuz that was how you did it in 1.10 and it's completely different now in 1.11:
Character\Troll\Male\TrollMale.m2 <-- UD model renamed to Troll model.
Or am i wrong? is it any other way you are suppose to do it because when i do it this way i get an error. I also tried to take the troll model and rename it to the scourge model just to see and still got an error.
Would be great if i could get the exact information of how to change an Troll to Undead, i would probably get it all then and i dont have to bother anymore ^_^

Yo i have a simple question. I cant find a Way to change my boots MODEL !! Not the texture i know how to change the textures, but i cant find any boots model !! HELP ME !! plz :P
Boots dont have a model, they are a skin texture found ITEM > TextureComponet > FootTexture. There is also another part of the boot texture in the LowerLegTexture. Make sure you get both textures from Foot and LowerLeg or you wont be able to see your whole boot skined corectly.
Well actualy boots do have models, you can find them in the Model folder but trying to find which boot you use can be hard since there not labed like the Helm and Sholders are named Raid whatever your class is. Even if you change the model of your boots you still have to change textures of them or they just show up a bright green, which means 0 skins.
PS. If your making a Patch-2 folder it will corrupt your WoW since Patch-2 is used for the little hotfix patches they instale and you will have to reinstal WoW if you dont have a backup. Make one called Patch-3 and it will work fine.

Ugh I am sick of hearing that garbage, simply make a patch-3.mpq with the undead files renamed to the gnome character files, it's a pain to do since theres like 20-30 things you need to find out of like 500 sets for each skintone, hair, facial features, faces.

But it changes ALL gnomes to undeads. Can I just change MY gnome to an undead without touching other gnomes?
Jees.
No, because theres only one Gnome Model, and your character is that gnome model.

is there anyway to change the UD shoulder size anymore? I am really sick of having these tiny shoulders when even BE's have massive shoulders. I tried the first way and the way where the guy posted the patch-3 file.
