Any of you guys played the Guild Wars demo over the last few days?
I tried it out, was expecting nothing from it. Didnt even know what was it about really. I have to say some things in terms of grp vs grp pvp combat impressed me immensely. I played a mesemer/necro
1. Absolute CC, there is pretty much none that I saw of any kind. Thats right no Sleep or Mez or Root. Stuns are very short duration.
2. Mesemer class itself is really well created. CC is in the form of spells like Feedback(damages whenever you cast), blind grief(blinds target and yourself), weak snare etc. Depending on skill setup it can be made into extremely tough drain/dot dd or anti-caster that can shut down opponents specasters very well
Whenever that this is released it seems like it will really worth trying. Proof that absolute CC is not needed to make a good team pvp system.
Did you guys play it? If you did what are your thoughts on their combat system?

I do not like the game at all. I played for roughly 15-20 minutes total, which isn't really giving it a shot but, I just didn't like it. I think my problem is is that once I get into a new MMO, I compare it to WoW, and after doing this its impossible to even play any game.
I didn't like the UI, or how you have 1 race and the subclass thing. I like to explore and do whatever, this game just isn't for me I guess.

GW is not really a mmorpg, its more like Tribes meets Diablo2 type of game.

Ive tried it over the last few days and I liked it more than disliked it.
I tried warrior/monk and that didn't work very well so I rerolled as a monk/mez. I didn't really use any of the mez, so I just went pure Monk and it turned out to be fun.
I actually enjoyed playing as monk, healing people up, trying to figure out new ways of improving my healing and such. Due to the fact that I was actually healing as a monk and not trying to do damadge or other stuff like many other monks in GW, i was valued in every gruop i've been to.
As far as PvP goes it is absolute crap. Gladiator arena picks random 8 people, as far as I know it does not look upon level or class, which means your random group of 8 may contain a level difference of 5 levels and half the group can be the same class. This competely screws over a group, no matter how good the players are. Then you get the opposing group, which was lucky enough to get all high lvls and a well balanced class group. This turns into a massacre in which your group wipes within seconds. I don't call this pvp, i call it forcable rape...because it simply depends on luck and has absolutely nothing to do withs kill.
Then there's the second option of public PvP which is the Something Something tomb Tournament. Here you actually get to pick you group but picking the group itself is a very tedious process. As far as I know there is no /invite (name) in GW, you have to manually look around for people that you want to invite, which takes a long time. Then the match starts, and its fairly fun at first, lack of organization is painful but fighting is still nice. At one point, however, I was engaged in a battle that lasted over 15 minutes, an NPC, priest, kept ressing the other team, over and over again. It took 15 minutes to kill him, either way, I felt like I was in a Tribes match more than in an mmorpg match.
The last option for PvP is the Guild pvp where you can randomly get paired up with another team or manually challenge another guild. My guild has like 7 people and we never had more than 4 on at a time and quiet frankly I only tried getting together and doing it once. It didnt work, we had notimer and after 5 minutes we gave up on waiting.
Main things that are wrong with the game are the pathing system, which is horrible, you walk one way and 10 seconds later it brings you back 30 yards back. The minimap dots are way too small and they do not indicate names which sucks terribly. Partying system is horrible, you should be able to invite people without manually finding them in hordes of other players.
The few good things about the game are the minimap's option to draw white lines which allows people to coordinate people better or just pin point direction or what not. WoW could really use this option. The graphics are really amazing, and they run so smouthly, I'm not saying WoW ought to have it, because WoW is sort of cartoon based MMORPG but nontheless Guild Wars graphics are spectacular. This includes the spell casting which is just a joy to watch. Guild hall is also a nice option, its awesome to have your own larga area commited completely to your guild.
The game seems to be not so equipment dependant. It mainly revolves around the skills and spells you aquire from various locations. You can only use 8 of them per mission/battle which makes it very tricky to select specific spells that you need for different missions.
Anywhoo, im forgetting myself, the game is a good one definetely, not as good as WoW, but its playable and enjoyable in the same time.
Overall I give it a 7.5/10 as compared to WoW being 9.5/10
It'll end today and it was good time spent while WoW is out.

eh, I tried it for a bit, I'm a lvl 18 Elementalist/Monk, its okay. It's more of a pure pvp based game with little else to do. The graphics are nice and its interesting to have henchmen if you can't find a group. Overall its a fun game for a little while, but it kinda just gets old...
I'm playing.
My charname is Malis Avibus
I'm a necro/mesmer. Death and Discipline mainly.
I raise undead to handle little stuff and I do all the mesmer craziness to take out bosses - like feedback, dots, mana drains, mana burns etc.
I am very effective in group pvp, but I tend to get targeted. Noone likes a mesmer =)

All I know about the game is that the designers have the biggest hardon for the bloom effect since the Prince of Persia guys.

GW is a nice game so there's no need to be so nosy about it .. i started with a ranger/elementalist which seemed nice at first but after seeing the pvp ( Gladiators Arena ) where u go in and just play a random 8v8 which seemed like a unique sort of idea .. the whole concept of the game seemed acceptable and i dunno why people hated the game although i give the gameplay a 9/10 but we're back to spamming and trading in the game like Diablo 2 so no wonder why people would hate it :?

I thought it was alright.
This game is no world of warcraft but it has some potential.
I had a warrior/necro, those guys are brutal in pvp.
