That's only one desktop, I have 4 I can go through, and at the time, I had eve-online running in one, another desktop with my buddylist and other random crap in another...and possibly vmware in another as well...

eve and wc3 both work well on linux with cedega, don't know about civ4, but you can always dual boot for that.

bitlord? Azureus seems to have gotten a lot better since I last tried...seems faster, and less bloated...but as for me, I just use the console-based bittorrent client :) it fits in a screen, so even if i kill x, it's still on :D

Thinking of giving xgl a try (3d desktop) i'll post screenies if I get it working, it's still very unstable atm...

Actually, you can run xgl with anything, but without compiz, (a window manager similar to metacity, designed to leverage xgl) there's no benefit. You can run KDE + Compiz, but you might lose some KDE-centric functionally and some Qt apps are crashing under compiz. The biggest problem with xgl, imho, is that you have to set it up. If set up correctly, there's some overhead but it's not bad (supposed to improve as NVidia / ATI release more xgl-aware drivers). But if you set it up wrong (a lot of people do due to incorrect / outdated guides), its an unstable memory + cpu hog.

I thought it could be run in KDE. Anyways, I might just wait a little longer until it becomes a bit more stable to try it again. Right now it sounds like it conflicts with too much stuff to use seriously.
