View Full Version : Shaman Leveling

Alright, since there hasn't been a good shaman thread in awhile about this....or even a current talent build sticky ever, thought I'd bring it up since I harrassed Cynapse lately about it.

I've decided to level a shaman on Dethecus and I really don't care for the leveling stages of life so I plan on trying to make this fast and efficient as possible.....so some things I've learned so far.

-Most important talent to aim for first is 2hander weapons
-Shocks are not mana efficient, keep rank 1 earth shock for stopping spells
-Totems aren't mana efficient besides Searing Totem
-Use rockbiter until windfury, then use just that.
-Improved lightning shield is good and your best damage/mana ratio.
-After 2hander talent, you can go restoration if you plan to heal or elemental if you plan to solo/pvp.
-Clearcasting is good if you spam 30mana earthshock to use it on a free 300+ mana shock.

So just some more grinding questions:

1) Since searing totem is worth the mana for the damage, is it worth boosting this with the 20% talent or the 10% fire talent? Is the cheaper totem talent worth getting?
2) What other "key" talents are in the Enhancement line for grinding? Thinking Parry would be nice right?
3) Stoneclaw worth anything at all? Seems to never grab aggro from me (wanted to spam lightning bolts if I could while it paid attention to it)
4) Flurry worth dealing with if you've got a 2hander and grinding?
5) Combat Endurance - is it just me or is this talent crap? Maybe with a troll....but I'm an orc so bleh.

And finally, final game question:

1) Is it more important to grab +healing or +regen as a shaman since they have no real way to get mana back in combat?
2) In pvp, assuming you got improved SoE and improved GoA totems, wouldn't that be around 1k AP to your group? Worth more than a windfury totem to melee groups?
3) Any necessary addons out there besides TotemTimer/AnkhTimer for just shamans?
4) How viable are the pvp sets for a shaman? I know they're usually nice but are there better or comparable alternatives elsewhere or no?
5) Is it 1str=2ap, 1agil=1ap for shamans?

And anything else ya guys want to give out as advice would be helpful. Did you guys down Ouroa or whatever his name is last night?

I took 23 talents in Enchancement up to Parry and Imp WF and the rest is put into restoration as I'm leveling up. Can't say that I regret it.

Stoneclaw sucks imho and if I use one single cl on two mobs and then put a stoneclaw up it doesn't take aggro from the second mob.

Flurry is nice to have and if you're going enchancement get it :p

When you're leveling up get str, agi, stam gear and when you're 60 get whatever gear you want but enhancement is boring to play.

Don't know if 1 agi = 1 ap but I haven't noticed that my ap is going up when I equip agilitygear so I guess it doesn't give you any ap.

1 str = 2 AP

and

WF + SoE > GoA + SoE, imo.

WF + SoE > GoA + SoE, imo.

assuming you've got the full list though, you're saying...

WFTotem + SoE + Rockbiter > SoE, GoA, improved WFWeapon

Which I dont know if I agree...and hey, no one answered my questions! :)

Searing and Fire totem talents.....Combat endurance....addons.....pvp sets...

Well screw searing and fire totem talents, don't take combat endurance if you're not a troll and even then it sucks (at lvl 40 it gives you like 4 hp/tick if you're a troll :P). Don't know about the pvpset but I'm putting all my effort in getting the tier 0 items and then converting them to 0.5 just to be a "true hybrid" or something like that..

Because I want to go from Shit to EPIX in one go.

Wow, just realized the searing totem talent isn't 20% damage but 20% duration - talk about an ass talent. When do fights go longer than 45 seconds...

Oh, you meant for your shaman only, I thought you meant in a group with other meleeclasses.

Well then GoA + SoE is probably better, not sure though.

well, RockBiter talent only gives I think 10% more AP.....improved windfury gives 22% - and windfury is more to start out with.

So it's like 200ap difference if not more.

I'd go 5/5 Ancestral Knowledge, 5/5 Thundering Strikes, 3/3 Imp Lightning Shield, 1/1 2H Weapons, 2/2 Imp Ghost Wolf, 5/5 Flurry, 2/2 Imp WF Weapon, 1/1 Flurry for your first 24 points. Aim for Flurry and Imp WF as soon as you can as they will greatly increase your grinding speed.
After that, it's really your call. If you are starting to instance, I'd recommend getting some of the healing spells. For solo, I had Concussion/Convection/Elemental Focus in order to use flame shock for damage, and I respecced to healing once I got into the high-50s.

Really hope the review comes before I go too deep into the shaman class....cuz man there are some shitty talents.

If you wanna pvp I'd recommend going elemental if you have the gear for it. Enchancement is kinda boring but it's ok too. For leveling just go 23-24 enchancement and the rest of the talentpoints in resto, 75% chance not to loose casting time om lesser healing wave is pretty sweat. If you wanna go elemental for pvp when you hit 60 go 30/0/21 and get NS in resto =).

And someone answer my post in the druid thread :P.

SandDemon

I'm assuming NS is better than EF....

I would get 2 handed spec then go restoration down to NS. I feel like a gimp in world pvp without ILHW and NS.

This is what I'm going for on my shaman while leveling:
http://tinyurl.com/78wcv

First Enhancement, then Elemental and last Restoration. Is it any good?

Molakar

Going elemental to level isn't very good since it's not that mana effective, you'll be drinking more then you'll be killing mobs :P.

Going elemental to level isn't very good since it's not that mana effective, you'll be drinking more then you'll be killing mobs :P. So, should I ditch Elemental and get NS or stilll put in a few points for Elemental Focus?

SandDemon

I plan 5/5 in 10% mana, 3/3 in improved lightning, 2/5 in melee crit, 1 in 2handers, 3 in melee crit, 2 in improved wolf, and then flurry....

By then I'll either go for clearcasting or down healing, depending if I group much.

Anyone else find it odd you can get Improved Ghost Wolf before you get Ghost Wolf? Almost all of the talents in WoW are setup so you don't get the talent for it until you have the skill...

Molakar

Ditch everything in elemental and get ns, you won't regret it.

SandDemon

If I'm pretty much just gonna quest+grind my way to 60, dont really see a need for NS. NS is for those "oh shit" moments which shouldn't happen often...

Molakar

"Oh shit"-moments could happen even if you're questing so I think it's a nice thing to have.
