question concerning warlocks' immolate

if immolate is chain-cast as fast as possible, will the dot ever tick? what about when bane is taken to 5?

In my personal experience, after you apply the first one, the debuff will stay on their debuff bar, but it acts as if you're just renewing the timer on it. So the dot will continue to land, and as long as you keep casting it, it'll stay on for 15 sec after you last cast. But, you might as well just cast searing soul instead, since it's more mana efficient for the same initial dmg.

It's possible i'm wrong however, i hadn't played my warlock seriously for several days before the server down.

but what im wondering is whether the second dot "refreshing" the first includes having to wait for the first tick of the refreshed dot to take place even though we were almost done waiting for the first tick of the first dot, which might be a problem when chain-casting immolate (it could cause the dot to never tick).

I can't tell you 100% for sure that's how it works because i never tested that, and i can't log in to look for you. However, to avoid that you can just cast searing soul for less mana at the same casting as immolate with max bane. Which would allow the dot to tic, and you could chain cast.

I'm pretty sure it won't tick if you chain cast it.
Try the above post if you're fixed on this strat, however you're better off with putting your affliction spells to use.
