There are large PVP areas in every area of the world. Before you worry that you'll accidentally stumble into danger, the limits of each area are clearly marked.
I hope these carebear-pussymode-friendly articles wont lead to a warhammeronline-game where PvP is totally avoidable and people may happily enjoy themself in a peaceful PvE world.
Oh well 2007 will show it - i just hope they dont screw up, this material is just too good ;)

It's real funny if ya read the two articles seperately because IGN talks about this carebear mode ala pvp signs and warnings and WorthPlaying talks about how even your base cities aren't safe from PvP. IGN is probably stretching it to appeal to the masses of carebears while WorthPlaying is probably stretching it to the hard-core gamer who wants nothing but PvP.
It'll be interesting to see what happens during E3...

I'm sure gaherishammer will be populated with some carebear action. For the rest of us the PvP will be the lifeblood just like the rest of daoc was.

I loved the whole race/class thing in the articles....like each race has 4 classes that range in academic classes to "I smash shit" classes. So dwarves have 2 of each, a berserserker and a tank and a runic shaman (best quote from the article: "they cuss at you while they heal you") and a tinker who "makes explosive stuff in his garage". And then goblins have 3 smash classes and 1 academic, a goblin shaman.
Brilliant idea because hey, a Night Elf warrior and an Orc warrior shouldn't be anything alike.....wow, unique classes for races!

World of Warcraft was very 'promising'. Every MMO is 'very promising'. This is how every company builds the hype. Let me tell you now, forget all the bullshit they are telling you now and wait for beta to get your first impressions.

Big time agree.. I can hardly remember a single MMO that didn't look super cool before anybody got to play it. Personally I'm kind of sick of new ones and MMO hopping and might just chill in EQ2 for a good long while..

yeah well it's warhammer, 'nuff said!
mainly excited because it's made by mythic. not because mythic is really that great, but because they learned alot from daoc. wow seemed to not learn anything from daoc ^^
bet alot of old daoc powerhouse groups will play this game, and that is enough to be excited about.

I am serious and playing the game in beta or prelude doesn't really really do the game justice. It's quite possible for games to get better instead of spoon feeding you the same shit (read: WoW). This is a premium pvp game on it's own right, but it's really the best thing out and has beeen as far as pvp is concerned. The major complaints i've seen are chinese farmers and the grind. Chinese farmers are a fact of life for every mmorpg now, difference in l2 from a lot of games is that you can actually forcefully remove them from hunting grounds. People bitch about the grind boggle me, and this coming mostly coming from woW crowd who have done the same instances and ran the same raid content heeps of times. You guy's are either really fucking dumb, or have no qualms about being huge hypocrites. Besides, leveling has been made easier with experience changes, added quests, and new hunting grounds. The group style grind will always be superior to WoW's instanced dungeon bullshit as far as socializing and clan bonding in game is concerned.

Best article so far, came out today....with a very true quote:
MMOs are not computer games they are very close to toy soldiers, he said.
Oh, how?
An MMO is about skill, commitment and imagination. In an MMO you live the experience all the time a computer game is a packaged experience; an MMO is a hobby experience. We are making an MMO/Warhammer hobby. It costs money to play our game; it costs time to play our game. Commitment is everything. The more you commit the more you will get out of it. We are not asking for your money, we are asking for your soul.

Just like everything else, will have to wait and see how it's actually all put together, hopefully we will see it in action at E3 this year. If Blizzard makes some amazing PvP changes though it will be a tough call because the PvE in WoW is actually getting a lot better than the MC days so if they take the same direction with PvP and actually get outdoor PvP rolling again and change the system then yeah.

It would take ALOT to make PvP in WoW entertaining. At the moment its just another timesink to get nice items. It serves no deeper purpose like PvP in WAR for example. In the beginning me and my friends were hoping for custom battlegrounds where you could challange people accross the servers. But this will never come. I like the WAR PvP System and it would take Blizzard ages to implement something like that in WoW. Actually i think large-scale PvP isnt possible in WoW because the servers/gamecode are just too crappy - remember City-Raids and the Lags and crashes? So i think PvP-wise WAR will totally trash WoW. Or at least i hope so.

AQ20/40 are both amazing instances with great fights. BWL is pretty tedious now but was a step in the right direction from MC. The progression of the raid zones in terms of fun/creativity is what really excites me. We all know Blizzard has a HUGE development cycle and I think they realized they screwed up on PvP just like the realized they fucked up with MC. The progression from MC -> BWL -> AQ in terms of boss fights and shear fun is the fact that really gets me excited for when they finally make the changes to PvP. It just takes them sometime to fix it (they have no competition atm so they aren't really rushed) and I think we will be reaping the benefits in some time. God I can't wait for Naxxarams where loot will be more upgrade than sidegrade (I still like a ton of AQ loot though).

Well, the encounters are getting a lot more interesting. Alternative tanking methods, actually having to think about encounters and stuff like that make for some really enjoyable moments.
Yeah, REAL contested territories. First time i heard contested territories in WoW i thought: Yay, kill alliance and get control of the area! Great!
Disappointed me.

Eh guess we haven't gotten that far into AQ20 yet to see it - I swapped guilds awhile back (from a guild that had finished BWL to a guild figuring out MC) and we're now back on Rag and doing AQ20 for shits & giggles. I must say the first fight was hilarious the first time on Ventrilo ("Ok....what's that mound coming up? OH SHIT, ok RUN from those things") but we still downed him our first try.
Our first AQ40 run is actually tonight so eh, maybe I'll have a different story later but I'm pretty jaded about pvp still (you think it's bad now? Try playing a paladin)

LOL PVE ^^
Im not gonna lie, WoW has truly made me learn to like some PvE encounters.. I mean stuff like killing Nef for the first time with your guild and so on is really nerdy and fun.
But, I've also come to miss the good old pvp feeling DAoC had where you could just roll out with a group now and then and slowly but surely make some points and gain a realm rank or two... I just hate the entire way honor works in WoW and the constant fucking grind every minute of every waking moment you have to go through if you want realm rank 14.... and you can just forget having a break for like a week 'cause you'll be set back by a ton. I HATE THAT.

The PvE is moving in the right direction. If the loot wasnt so worthless on a whole AQ would be the best instance hands down, but after going through it a few times I kinda lose track to why I am in there. Hell I need more stuff out of MC than AQ at this time, stupid Flameguards.
If blizz could fix WoW's PvP there really wouldnt be a need for another MMO... until Starcraft :D Though its hard to see how they will do it. My biggest worry is even if they find a way to restore world PvP the servers wont be able to handle the load.
My idea so far, to give people a reason to get some good pvp going is to have relics drop in the world. Either off world spawn bosses and/or random places in the world like special towers and forts. Guilds can take hold of these relics and take them to their guild house (I know my guild has a ton of extra cash, will give us something to burn it on and opens up the possibility of alot of really cool things to strive for outside of a raid instance, like having free repairs or cheap potions). The relics give bonuses to the whole guild or if held on to for a certain amount of time spawn special NPCs that have awesome loot, potions, plans, etc. Very similar to how DOAC relics worked I guess. To work around the lag make the guild houses/castles be instanced and you can access any of the instances in major cities like BGs. Could even open the possibility of have same faction vs same faction guild battles.
Let the guild castles have NPC guards that are buffable with enough gold spent so a small group of peons couldnt roll through when you arent there. Whenever a raid enters your guild's instance the option to port to your instance to protect your keep and relics would be offered. That would really add a twist to the boring clear raids, a huge raid starts to lay siege to your keep while you are fighting domo... do you go to your keep or stay?
I just think it would be tight to give a reason for people to keep killing and fight for world bosses whose loot are no longer needed. Plus if you get a relic you will have to spend some solid time defending it. While it wouldnt fix all of the world pvp problems I still think it would be tight to have some huge guild vs guild battles.
I was losing a lot of faith in WoW and PvE in general up untill AQ. The direction they are taking with the encounters really makes me want to stay and see whats next. Twin Emps and the latest Viscidious are really well done, very intense with a great sense of acomplisment.
I would love to see PvP be "fixed" but it would require more work than I think would be economical for Blizzard to put into it. Some more outdoor raid mobs that can be greifed would be nice, but nothing as easy as say Emeriss. Two people being able to wipe a 40 man raid just by standing in the right spots doing nothing is stupid. Especially when you can't set up any kind of a permiter to keep them out due to the way rezzing works. Pulling dragons half way across the zone just feels dirty.
Giving them some very good loot (NOT PROGRESSION GEAR DAMNIT) would help. I wouldn't mind even if it was just something like lots of gold, or mats for pots and flasks.
Currently in WoW there is way too much burst damage, and way to much CC. Against a good group I spend 90% of my time as a Shaman locked down, and when I am not locked down I am raped by global trying to keep totems down heal and purge. It is far more frusrating than fun.

Cool, but it's not fair to compare a shotty free game to a premium PvP mmorpg. Also, on the horizon for Lineage 2 is the concept of a chaotic character. In the upcoming expansion you will be able to find a unique weapon that will turn you into a powerhouse of a character. You will have buff stats and be able to kill people and die without consequence. Essentially you will be a criminal though - people will be alerted of your presence and you will have to rely on others for normal game conveniences.
