View Full Version : Which axe is better? Whirlwind Axe or Ravager?
http://www.thottbot.com/?i=4578 Ravager's thottbot.
http://www.thottbot.com/index.cgi?i=4187 Whirlwind Axe's thottbot.
Now, I am level 38, and have both of these axes. I honestly can't decide which to use. On one hand the Whirlwind has the nice stat bonus and lets me hit for about 10 more becuase of the strength bonus.
Then we have the Ravager. It has the higher DPS but I still hit for about 10 less becuase it does not give me a strength bonus. The whirlwind abiltiy can be nice and has helped me, however last night it wiped out party out in SM cath. I was chasing a runner, swung, went in to WW mode, by the time I could double tap a skill to get out of it he had brought back about 4 new mobs which was more then enough to wipe us. (Not a big deal nothing had respawned but it could be MUCH more devastating in the feature.)
So my question is which of these axes do you prefer? I'm mainly aiming this question at Indalmar but other warriors feel free to jump in.

Depends. Soloing mobs, use ravager unless you get an add, switch to whirlwind; if youre constantly pulling 2+, use whirlwind, -never- use whirlwind in instances/caves - itll destroy you.

I live by whirlwind + cleave in instance.
I took the whirlwind hammer since I already had Ravager.

Simply because in instances you need to keep as few adds on you as possible, and whirlwind will only get you more, unless you have very good planning. If you find a way to get it to work, go for it, but I'd use ravager to be safe.

You sound like you've got your two Axes mixed up. Ravenger is the one with the Proc that hits everything around you.
Well, even after Dal has spoken I have found the Whirlwind axe to be my weapon of choice. Unless I get adds or we do a big pull at which point I use the Ravager. The extra stam and extra str useful IMO. Thanks for the discussion everyone.

I don't see how you think the whirlwind axe can stand up to the Ravager, granted people may have thier opinions, that's what they are, and nothing more.
1. Ravager has 37.3 dps vs. the Whirlwind Axe's 35.6 dps. The Whirl Axe does have +15 str, however, that much str will not equal or beat the pure dps of the Ravager. The Ravager also hits a tiny bit harder per hit, which is better for skills like MS, Overpower, and Retaliation.
2. Ravager has one of the best dps procs in the game. A ravagers average hit with moderate str at the level usable is 200-250. The proc makes you swing an additional 3 times in 9 seconds. That's 3 extra hits out of thin air. That is at the least 600+ damg if you land them. Not only is 600+ damg out of thin air in that amount of time crazy uber, it will hit ALL mobs around you. 2 mobs = 1200+ damg, 3 mobs = 1800+ damg ...you get the picture. The pure dps generated by this attack is insane, and the aggro you get from it is even better. Ping-pong tuant/sudnering 2+ enemies in an instance because you don't have a mage this time around? No problem, my weapon just proc'ed. Wow... my Whirl axe has +140hp ...big whoop.
Anyone who choses the Whirlwind axe over the Ravager either really likes the saw-bladed edge look, or is severely retarded.

I take it the Bonebiter (SM reward) axe is only available to Alliance? As most people consider it to be better than Ravager, but not seen it mentioned once here.

You would be taking it correctly then.
