View Full Version : Dead pixels?

Okie, so a pixel on my laptop just went out. How irritating. At least it isn't stuck on with a red or green color. It is either stuck on blue or is completely off. Sony won't fix it because it is just one and it is only 15mm from the top left corner (the bastards) - I've done some searching and found some recommendations which occassionally work. "Massaging" the area around the pixel is one that has been said to work sometimes. Anyone else tried this?

Anyone ever had a dead pixel come back on?

*sigh*

Never heard of any of those techniques doing anything except inducing new dead pixels in the areas where you "massage" - you never want to apply pressure to an LCD screen for more than a few seconds (random touches are fine, but nothing intense for an extended period).

I've got something worse, two blobs (about 20x20 pixels) have gone "bright" on my Powerbook's screen. Dunno what caused it, but it's not too terribly annoying unless I'm working on something that's completely black.

Yeah I figured the massaging thing was kinda bogus. Tried it for a few minutes and decided fuck it. heh

Two blobs eh? They won't repair that?

I found this CB

This depends on what brand you've bought. Whenever you spot a dead pixel on an LCD display under warranty you should contact your supplier. The results you get will depend on your monitor brands policy.

As of writing this the best brands are:

* Lite On, Phillips and Hitachi. All three have a zero tolerance to dead pixels but Phillips doesn't count unlit pixels as dead.
* HP will only replace a monitor with there are 4 scattered faulty pixels or 3 clustered.
* LG will replace a monitor if there are 2 within a 10cm circle.
* NEX-NEC will replace 3 lit, 3 unlit or 6 color.
* Samsung could try harder. Six dead pixels allowed on a 15", or nine on a 17", are too many.
* Sony will replace if on a 15" panel there is 2 lit, 2 unlit or 4 dead. On 17" panels Sony will replace if there are 3 lit, 3 unlit or 7 dead.
* Viewsonic will replace if on a 15" panel there is 2 lit, 2 unlit or 4 dead. On 17" panels Viewsonic will replace if there are 3 lit, 3 unlit or 7 dead.

Yeah I saw that. For some reason many manfucturers warranty their LCDs for laptops differently. Sony requires 12 dead pixels before they will replace the panel. :/

You can massage me for a few mins. I guarentee you'll get results.

That's a little bit scary. You'd be best off asking Kylie to do that for you I think.
