Except that they had full pvp servers later in daoc... I would imagine they will do at least one ffa pvp server.
Also, rumors of Mythic being bought by EA would be bad, considering EA is the touch of death.

Looks to be intersting. I've always liked Warhammer, so most likely will try it out.

maybe they will be smart and just have a FFA server from the get go.

Being smart has nothing to do with having an ffa server from the start. People rarely think about the amount of development that goes into creating ffa pvp environments that actually function. I would much rather have someone create a quality game then spend extra time later on developing a system where ffa pvp can exist in their world, assuming the game isn't built specifically for ffa pvp.

i know ill get shit for saying this, but ffa in a rvr game is retarded. mordred/andred were stupid. assuming warhammer is a daoc clone set in a new universe (dear god i hope it is, <3 daoc), i'd like to see them add a ffa server or two down the road, but i hope they dont spend much dev time on it.

Mordred and Andred were great servers if you ever actually played a 50 with a good template. The 8v8 on FFA servers was fantastic.

FFA Warhammer wouldn't really make any sense. I don't see why the Chaos would be fighting each other, same thing with the Empire. The Greenskins fight anything for fun, but still just too much inconsistency in the lore.

eh?
the only reason the empire hasnt been totally raped yet is just because the chaos are so good at fighting each other.. its when they unite under one banner and one leader they truly devastate the old world..
but i agree on it wouldnt make much sense for the forces of order to be fighting each other (although the dwarfs and elves could decide to restart their old grudge war)

I strongly dislike FFA PvP games.
I remember how people felt about Shadow Bane. There were those in top level guilds who played constantly and ran around razing towns to the ground all day long. Whenever I talked to those people, they seemed to like Shadowbane a great deal. Then I talk to other 90 percent of the people who played it, who were constantly at the top level player's mercy, and they all talk about what a crappy game it was.
I'm not suggesting that those who enjoy FFA PvP shouldn't engage in it, nor am I even suggesting that I personally have a serious issue with the inherent game mechanics of FFA PvP. Rather, I'm saying that my personal favorite thing about MMOs (as opposed to FPS, RTS, and other more skill-oriented genres) is the social atmosphere, and I simply do not think FFA PvP promotes a casual and warm social environment. In my experience, these types of games tend to have relatively low populations and attract people with extreme and surly dispositions with distorted world views about the significance of gaming (this isn't directed at anyone specifically within this thread -- it's simply a general observation). I'd much rather play a game that my girlfriend, my best friend, my sister, my dad and I could all play together and have fun with simultaneously.

I liked FFA PvP on EU Camlann (DAoC), basically only because it was the only way for free pvp outside of Battlegrounds.
And everyone of us has been in the situation wanting to just kill a m'fucker of their own faction, haven't we?
Next time that noob paladin rolls on Prophecy Pants in MC because lootmaster bugs out and a LEVEL 60 Char doesn't know how to pass, boot him from the raid and let the priests handle it, imo

Quite frankly this might be "the" game.
Can't wait for it - however if EA is buying Mythic... God don't let that happen.

Just like to add that Chaos fight eachother constantly, not only followers of different gods, but also in their own ranks for power and approval of their diety.
Same with Orks - the clans are fighting each other all the time until a Warboss "unites" them.
So ffa would be very viable imo, allthough i won't cry if they don't go for it.

Well, I guess you could argue that. But the Lore on the main site has the Darkelves/Greenskins allied and the Empire/HE/Dwarves allied and Chaos invading the Empires land. It is set up perfectly for RvR battlegrounds.
Anyways the RvR sounds utterly jizztastic.

"PvP will be broken into four types: Skirmishes, Battlefields, Sceanarios, and Campaigns. Skirmishes are... two or more enemies clashing in unstructured combat. Battlefields... fighting for in-game resources, such as lumber mills and temples. Scenarios are similar to Battlefields, except these large-scale battles will be instanced and evenly matched by the server (adding bots to balance the sides).. and factor the most into which side takes a zone. Campaigns will be the PvP end-games - a final, humiliating invasion of the losing race's capital city.
Once [the capital is taken, yay for wanton slaughter of NPCs]... the server's metagame will spawn in AI reinforcements, drive out the invasion force, and then reset the server.... You get to keep [all your phat lewts]... At launch, there will be approximately 33 zones and 1800 quests...
Oh and this, Orcs all the way for sures.
Orcs, for example, will grow in size and become more musclebound, while Dwarfs' beards will gradually become longer to indicate their venerable status. ...you'll be able to outfit your character with personal trophies, such as adorning your Orc's spiked armor with Dwarf skulls...
It looks like you guys found my site (Warhammer Offline).
There's quite a few more screenshots out, some that were published in German and French magazines this week, and more on the official Warhammer Online site. Yes, the Orcs do resemble WoW, mostly because of Blizzard ripping off Warhammer way back when. I think you'll find the landscape doesn't look much like WoW at all. Only time will tell though, I guess. But anyway....
I thought I saw you Nurfed people running around on EQ2 pvp server, Nagafen. If you need a couple of extra healers look me up (Vervayne). Yeah yeah, I know. I read the recruitment thread. Just thought I'd mention it anyway. We are max bored.

Omg thank you Jedus for lurking in our forums.
Btw, we're moving over to http://www.warhammeralliance.com to jump on the bandwagon. The devs post over there and there is alot of community activity...if you want the latest on WAR news you'll find it there.
Btw...
Anyways the RvR sounds utterly jizztastic.
Is 'jizztastic', a good thing? I'm thinking it must be. In fact it sounds kinda like one of the drinks I've been crafting in EQ2.

DAoC was a lot of fun when played correctly. Also, the servers like Mordred and Andred were second rate servers as far as pvp went. I guess it didn't necessarilly have to end up that way, but it did. If you make a server FFA you run the huge risk of making it zerg related. Whoever can amass the most people to take over resource location X, or castle Y will often win with superior numbers. Zergs are a factor in every game, but I think if you make a gaem FFA with things like harsh death penalties, people will be even more likely to zerg or join a zerg guild.

Or it will make them more likely to try and get better or make/join a guild with better members instead of just more.
