View Full Version : Shamans not that good without BWL gears?

Well my lowbie alt shaman is going pretty well..granted he's only lvl 35 and it is pretty easy to level at low levels.
I've seen many videos of shamans "wtfpwning"..I know these only show the good parts of PvP and not show when people get owned..
I'm probably going to be PvP'ing a lot at lvl 60 in AV..so I'm planning on going Ele/Resto 31/20 for the burst dmg..but is this build viable without all the purples which boosts you +400 spell damage AND 6k+ mana? I mean i guess blue +dmg gear is there but I'll have low mann if I deck myself out in blue +dmg gears.
I'm really worried because my server is pretty new (about 3~4 months old) and the top-end guilds are barely going through MC and only a couple has downed the whole MC. Any suggestions?
No worries shamans own.
Endgame is all about gear tho and bwl geared shamans can solo almost a group if they know what they doin.

You wont get the kind of crazyness you see in the videos, but an elemental shaman is good even without purples so long as you're fighting at your gear level. My former main was a shaman and if I got the jump on someone they typically had 5 seconds to live, as the damage I could put out (LB->CL->ES->melee->ES) would kill them on my second shock unless nothing crit. I usually then had enough left in the tank to take out a 2nd, sometimes even a third. In AV... you'll be about as useful as a mage without damage gear unless you're healing, so yea, nothing special. So on the small scale you'll be good, but in a larger scale (AV) you'll need the gear to carry you.
EDIT: To clarify my shaman's purples were all healing gear, so as far as damage gear she was decked out in pure blues. She just had higher health and mana from the EF pieces I didn't switch out. :P

As long as you can drop str and wf in pvp you'll own in any gear^^

MC and BWL gear doesn't change effectiveness of Purges or Windfury totems just how many of them you can cast and lay.

So basically, what I'm getting out of all the opinions, is that purples from MC/BWL are for PvE purposes..but arnt there purples that are non-class specific and adds just as much +spell dmg WITH good int/mana whereas blues add only +spell dmg and not much int/mana.
This is what I'm worried about. I'm worried that if I deck myself out in blue dmg gears, I'll only have like 3000 HP/4000 Mana. I've seen a couple of good hunter threads where people listed pre MC gears that are good. Are there such threads/links for pre-MC(maybe some MC/BWL parts that are easy to get) ele/resto builds?
Thanks in advance.

Shamans in BWL gear are retarded. Jajewal (Limitless) is a sick shaman. He's in mostly BWL gear. Takes a lot to pull that bitch down. Those of you formerly from Archimonde may know him ^_^
properly dmg geared shamans own hard. BWL gear and particularily the new AQ set makes them massively more powerful. I use 30/0/21 for pvp. Although for AQ learning phase I have switched my mace back to +healing and specced 40 resto.

There are only a handful of things that a shaman should pick up in bwl,so I dont think BWL gear makes or breaks a shaman.

Takes forever to kill. But its still rumored as to whether or not he is capable of dong damage.

.......what? Are we playing a diffrent game? Did all other classes lose their various forms off cc and shamans gained some? Just about any 2v1 vs a shaman would have to be a massive failures to lose to him.

I disagree that Ele Shamans are in the same category as critadins or shadow priests.

Unless you're a die hard raider, this guy has the right idea on how to gear/spec a shaman.
He retains roughly the same armor, +healing, health and mana as a TS Shaman while sporting 391 nature damage.
The only difference between a resto and an ele/resto Shaman is that 1 has mana tide and the other has 1.5 800 nuke that hits 3 people and a 750 instant damage nuke on top of that. Not to mention the crit rate of his lightning/healing spells is way higher.
Against an organized group you are going to to for the most part get shit on if you waste your mana tossing shocks instead of trying to help heal through their assit train. Yes you can do an OK amount of damage, but that is not what you are in the group for.
In PUG or less organized pvp shock spec is really fun and reasonably effective.
Also to say he has similar healing is rather silly. I have 500 + healing right now. He is sitting at 350. On top of that from my spec I have 5% more mana and my heals do 10% more right of the bat. Even more than that, keeping my 5 piece earthfury makes my heals around 10% cheaper as well.
That is a pretty huge diffrence in healing for what is more of a novelty than anything else. Also grats on whatever DKP system let him take a lot of that loot heh.
