Shaman Questions

Hi, im new to this forum and could need some help from an experienced shaman. Im currently a lvl 24 Troll Shaman, and i wonder what build i need to make to be viable in both instances and group pvp. What talents to use, and why. What talents to skip, and why. I would want a detailed "talent guide", if anyone is willing to write one. Thanks alot beforehand.

PS. This site, and this forum is just awesome. Great information all over the place, plus the Nurfed-UI is godlike!

Well, i have read the shaman threads. And i have gotten loads of good information from them, but i cant really seem to find any statements WHY i should use those talents? If i should go 2h staff or shield/wep. What weapon i should use, fast slicing daggers or hard hitting maces along with the shield? Why that dagger instead of the mace? etc etc.. thanks for the answers ive gotten so far! :)

Dagger = little dmg (dps).

Mace&shield = more dmg.

2H mace = uber :)

staffs are also good, sometimes better than maces imo.
though alot of ppl prefer to use 1hmace/shield for pve. (for pvp: don't go enhancement, but you can change later on)..

Enhancement till high level cause its easier to level with.. you deal far more dmg over time and shocks are only really handy for pvp.

Okey, i heard most ppl who use shield also go with daggers.. Maybe that was a lie? ;) Okey, but is talent reset available in retail? Also if i want to use 2h maces i need alot of points into enhancement. In later levels when i should switch to elemental/restoration, i should get the improved ghost wolf also right? Then should i use 5% more mana or 5% more block skill? What is best for pvp at high lvl, staff or 1h+shield? Also how do 5% more block work? Is it 5% more block counted from the block on the shield? Lets say shield have 30 block, do i i get 31,5 block with the skill? Again, thanks for your time to answer my questions.

I'll answer the questions as best I can, Hogart.

First off: yes, you can reset talents in retail, but the system is set up in a way as to limit the number of times one would want to do so. Specifically, the first talent point wipe is either free or costs one silver, and for each wipe after that the cost to wipe increases enormously (I believe it increases to 10 times the previous cost). So we can wipe our builds, but only a few times in the game without spending enormous amounts of money. Thus, creating a build until level 60 and then switching to a more PvP oriented build would be possible and appropriate. As for improved ghostwolf, yes, I think most shamans seem to agree that it's a must, one of the most powerful talents along with nature's swiftness. As for the 5 percent block against 5 percent inccreased mana, even the most experienced shamans I speak with are up in the air on the issue. It seems slightly more common to take the 5 percent increase to mana, but both are acceptable bridges to ghostwolf and lightning shield, by most accounts.

Daggers, maces, axes, it doesnt really matter. They all work well. Pick based on DPS/weapon stats and effects, not on the type of weapon.

So while i level up ive understood that i should go with the enhancement tree since thats how you kill mobs fastest without to much downtime.. But what type of stats should my gear have? I realise that for pvp i need lots of stamina and intellect, correct? But for PvE, i need stamina/spirit or? Thanks again, and i gotta say this is the best wow-related forum yet!

Same as PvP, but value str/spirit a little more and stam a little less.

Okey, so Str/Spi +sta in pve and Sta/Int/Spi in PvP? Or did i get this wrong?
Also, is taurens warstomp so good on shamans?
And is the 5% more hp alot better then 10% regen? 5% more hp out of 3000 hp is like 150hp while 10% regen (20% with talent?) is like 6hp (12hp with talent?) per tick in combat @ Lvl60? 30 sec = 60 hp from regen (120 hp with talent?). If thats it i think the 10% regen is better then 5% hp, am i wrong? Thanks once again!

STa int is usefull for both pve and pvp ! Ull get spirit from blue items anyway ! Most high end blue mail items with int and sta have spi too

Ohh cool, thanks for your time.. Still wondering about the choosing of tauren or troll though.. Guess thats personal preference, but. I want whats best, im going herbalism btw, so that gives a good bonus of +15.

The only thing i think is good about Troll/Shaman is the hp regen during combat. But I dunno how good it is on high level with Combat Endurance, so cant really choose on my own »_«

In the end races come down to preference. I played a Tauren and an Orc in Beta...I picked Tauren for Release. I like their starting are better and I love the big Minotaur look.

Well as for your question about daggers, I believe the reason people choose daggers is for their high speed, as high weaponspeed gives more hits i.e a bigger chance for the enhancementspell Windfury Weapons to proc..or at least more chances ;)
So you might want to consider which weaponenhancement you're using with different weapons..Windfury Weapons with fast hitting weapons like the dagger or Flametounge Weapons with slower weapons such as 2H mace/axes..since it makes a larger firedmg with slower weapons! And if you put any talentspoints in to improve any of those enhancements..you might want to look for weapons that will perform well with that particular enhancement! =)

28.1.05 is the official date Vivendi gave to the retailsalespartner but we all know blizz :roll: so i wouldnt hope to much on that date.
