After playing for a few days, I realized that the loot systems were all messed up. Just curious how WoW plans on keeping it so that those who need it, get it. I came from EQ and there it was pretty much random rolling and then everyone just let the highest roller win the item. Is that how it works in the higher levels for WoW also? Just wondering for those that got into pubbie groups on beta in the higher end game.

It is just like any other game. If you hook up with a pickup group you will see quite a bit of greed whether their class needs it (ad. needs it more) or not. If you are selective and try to group with people you know and trust, then you can avoid a lot of the frustration. There are loot systems in place that are supposed to help negate this (i.e. need before greed), but it doesn't really work as intended.

I was in RFC earlier in the day before Arch crashed for good. A Shaman, who will remain nameless since he frequents these boards and I don't want to offend or start problems, rolled for a dagger that I badly needed as an upgrade (Rogue) and my friend took up for me knowing that I needed it. The Shaman claimed that he needed it for soloing even when he was currently using a sword (I think - I just remember it was a different type of weapon).

I didn't make a fuss about it and I don't mean to now. This is just an example of some of the questionable decisions you may come across if you group outside of your friends and guildmates. I don't hold it against the Shaman, but I definitely could have used the dagger. So stick to people you know when possible.

Problem with Shamans is that if you listen to people you'll never ever get any equipment. WTF SHAMANS USE SHIELDS!!! AND DAGGERS!!!

Honestly I hate the new loot options. NBG has warriors rolling on cloth and leather, group has mages getting bind on pickup shields...pickup groups are teh suck.

Mira, most shamans use daggers and shields, so the dagger would definately not be a waste for him. He would "need" it about as equally as a rogue. And at the beginning levels, melee dmg tends to override spell dmg for shamans. If the dagger had some sort of int/spi on it, the shaman should have gotten it. If it had agi, it should have gone to the rogue.

Well maybe it's just me then. I know if I were in the situation I would let the Rogue have it since a Rogue's weapon is really all he has if he uses daggers specifically. I would have at least asked the Rogue if he needed it.

As I said before, my post was merely an example of what I've experienced since release. It wasn't intended to become a thread on loot. I could really care less about loot as long as I have a decent weapon for my level.
