What would be the best combination of classes to run instaces with at high levels? Obviously Priest and Warrior are requied, and possibly a Mage, but they could be substituted with a Warlock? This is for the alliance side. My final thoughts were that Warrior/Paladin/Mage/Priest/ and a 5th class would be ideal. Would a mage to fill the 5th spot work? Additionally wouldn't three cloth users be difficult to split drops? I 'm confused, help! :D

I have some old screenshot with Indalamar (Warrior), Nisstyr (Warlock), Thaloc (Rogue), kaiser (Shaman) and Tivolie (Priest) in Blackrock Spire.
But they are old so I don't know.

as of -right now-, I'd say warrior(tank), 2 rogues(dps), preist(heals/res), horde 5th: shaman(dmg/totems/2ndary heals),
alliance 5th:warlock(DoT,tank pet)

:D

Well, u need :
1 Tank ( Warrior )
1 Damage Dealer ( Rogue/Hunter )
1 CC (Mage/Warlock)
1 Healer ( Priest )
1 2ndHealer ( Druid/Shaman )

I think some classes can replace others, but with such a group, u wont fail Imho

Warrior, priest, mage, shaman, warlock.

Warrior = obviously needed
priest = obviously needed
mage = water + high dd + int buffs + high aoe + cc
shaman = backup healer + dd + totems
warlock = free second life for priest + pet + cc (in numerous ways) + aoe + all around wonderfulness.

How does any other combination beat 2 priests, 2 mages and a warrior?

I don't like 2 or more of 1 class in a group. I play a priest and if I'm grouped with a mage, usually Alcaras, I know if multiple adds come, Alcaras is going to want to AoE and when he AoEs he gets some aggro so I shield him beforehand. If I'm grouped with 2 mages I don't know who's going to draw aggro and it's inconvenient for me to guess which one's going to aggro. In PvP I have the intuition that 2 of 1 class invites "holes," in which someone's not performing to his best potential, or is trying to do a role that another class can do better.

now that i'm playing as rogue i've noticed how handy they can be with combat build..

you can do huge dmg and keep going with a few heals :)

so what about:

rogue, priest, warlock, shaman and mage..

i figure that with this build you can kill really fast; even in instances ..
i'm not suggesting the rogue should tank or anything, but he won't die if he has to take hits.. no warrior simply cause they won't give the dps you need to quickly get through those mobs :) (don't kill me dal :p)

mage can poly, rogue sap, priest can fear (not in instances obviously. . .), warlock can fear.. so if you get alot of shit on your head, you can keep alot of mobs out of the fight :)

don't see a reason why this wouldn't work with good teamwork..

well; guess you've got me there, i'm not lvl 40+; don't know what those mobs hit for :) but at lower levels you don't need mail to tank.. :)

Not sure but a shaman with the best equip @ mid 40 might be able to tank uldaman but every higher instance req. a plate wearer imo

Hunter as DPS? hehehe Since when did Hunters have DPS? If your looking to fight a mob for 10 mins of sustain dps maybe, but a Mage can bust dps a mob much better. You really don't want your pulls to last that length of time to where a Hunter would be considered good.

the fact that the warrior wouldnt be able to hold the agrro with 2 hude dmg dealers and 2 hate makers.

A rogue gets all aggro on him when fighting hard creeps, thats why I prefer a warlock. They do massive damage and dont get aggro easily.

My perfect group,
Priest, warlock, warrior (just need those fucks (soz indal)), shaman and mage.
You need a mage for sheep, warlock for dot, warrior as tank, shaman as allroundy and priest as healer.

In pvp, the rogue can go alone and kill the priests, warlocks and mages.

Hunters suck and thats about it.

How does any other combination beat 2 priests, 2 mages and a warrior?

You lose the low mana dmg mitigation/dps/offtank combination brought by a shaman, and the utility of a warlock.

1 Priest : Primary healer, Primary supporter, Secondary DPS'er
1 Paladin: Primary buffer, Secondary healer, Secondary DPS'er
1 Mage: Primary CC'er, Primary DPS'er
1 Hunter: Primary DPS'er, Secondary CC'er
1 Rogue: Primary DPS'er, Secondary CC'er

Priest takes care of healing and protection with occasional damage if the situation allows it.
Paladin takes care of buffing with blessings and seals as well as supports the Priest's healing.
Mage takes care of the primary CC with Frost Nova and Polymorph while maintaining a steady DPS.
Hunter takes care of primary DPS with special arrows such as Aimed Shot while maintaining a small form of CC with pet, traps and special arrows.
Rogue takes care of primary DPS dealing while being able to execute secondary CC moves such as Sap and stuns.

I'd say that's how I want it. We never lost a PvP fight this way even when outnumbered. And remember, the Hunter's tracking rocks!
