As mentioned in another thread, my guild is migrating from a custom null dkp system to NDKP currently, and we've been using it for our last 3 raids now. As with anything DKP related, this switch has, and continues to be heavily debated, and one particular issue that is a pain in the ass to resolve is how to deal with recruits that have epic gear, but have no loot history within our guild.

We migrated our guild's entire loot history to NDKP and use the dkp that we ended up with this way to determine who gets items etc, but it has caused a seemingly unfair end dkp result for some of our new recruits. Especially because our old system allowed new recruits to simply upgrade from the gear they had, some of them did this, and now with moving to ndkp, since they have no loot history, they are deeply in debt to the system all of a sudden.

Now, I know that stuff can be looted to Bank/Bank for new recruits, but this is another extreme, since it would allow new recruits with epics for most slots to upgrade a lot of items before the old timers that were negative get their shot. We are considering having the epic gear of new recruits be worth a percentage of it's normal value, so they still get to upgrade, but not as effectively as people that got their gear within our guild. Unfortunately, the NDKP software does not facilitate doing this (yet? :)) but my idea was to be able to select a percentage in the dropdown box that currently determines wether a member payed regular or full dkp for an item.

Are there any other thoughts on how to deal with recruits in such a situation ?

Perhaps others who use the system may help you. I'm not familiar with the carry over epic system :o

Our recruits pay full for a slot that they have an epic in if they didnt recieve it raiding with us. IE: Dudemanrecruit has boots of might. Boots of Wrath drop and Dudemanrecruit wants them. Dudemanrecruit pays full for Boots of Wrath since he did not loot Boots of Might with us.

That's not really fair either. A person who comes into the system with full Might will pay the same exact price by the time they get 8 Wrath pieces as a brand new person who had no gear at all and eventually gets 8 Might AND 8 Wrath.

So in the end the newbie got a free set of 8 Might while the former player had to work hard to get his 8 Might in the previous system.

Well, the recruit also will have less DKP because they have gone on less raids, so they have both paid the same, but the person with the most seniority will still have priority.

Well, the newbie has a free set in their new system, but he still had to put in the work to get it, so it technically wasn't free, he had to put in time somewhere ;).
