View Full Version : A warlock question for Nisstyr
Hey I had a quick question for you about your warlock build. (Btw I think its great).
You chose to put:
Devastation - 5/5 points
Increases the critical strike chance of your Destruction spells by 5%.
After much consideration I thought this was primarilly for Rain of Fire and Hellfire. I know the talent affect Immolate, shadow bolt, etc. as well. I just thought that those 2 were kinda the main reason you chose to put 5 talent points into that.
That being said (or me being crazy either works), I was wondering if the 5% crit was better than a 10% daze? For AoE attacks that do DoT wouldn't it be better to snatch up the daze talent?
Aftermath - 5/5 points
Gives your Destruction spells a 10% chance to daze the target for 5 seconds.
Would each tick of Immolate have a chance to activate this, or just the initial dmg?
Just your thoughts on which would be more usefull in group pvp, and perhaps why, would be awesome. Thanks again.

Still planning my build, but I'm getting both. But thats just crazy ol' me.
Daze + Pyroclasm = RoF/Hellfire CC
I may put my build together here since Archimonde is still down ATM.

The chance to daze does not work on every immolate tick, but it does work on every hellfire / rain of fire tick...
Also i really dont see the purpose in having a 10% chance to daze in large scale pvp, its not very reliable and im always assisting the "main assist" and that person will almost always be hamstringed so why bother with a daze, i'd rather have that 5% chance to drop his health that much faster... but thats just me people have there preferences.
Thanks, I wasn't sure about the immolate tick thing. And you make a vaild point on assisting the main tank,,, so many choices.

Nisstyr, from your template you posted in another thread, I noticed you had only 4/5 Shadow Mastery, but put 5/5 into Devastation.
1 point of Devastation (+1% crit) is only 0.5% extra damage (on average) for destruction spells (immolate/shadow bolt/shadowburn/searing pain), whereas 1 shadow mastery is +2% on shadow spells (shadow bolt/shadowburn/corruption/curse of agony/death coil), which comprise more of your total damage output anyway.
For that 1 talent point, it's 4x as good.
I have a similar talent build to yours (I just got 2/2 Nightfall yesterday @ L26, ah sweet bliss), but after Dark Pact/Shadowburn I haven't decided whether to get Destructive Range/Intensity, or Fel Stamina/3 other. I won't have to make that decision until L52, and it depends on how badly I find myself getting smoked in pvp.

actually giga i had already thought about that, but in beta i had a cheater talent build and i had dark pact and holocaust (now ruin) because of a bug when you zoned it took points out of improved mana drain, i'll probably be changing my spec a little for release

Another thing I thought about was getting Improved Shadow Bolt instead of Cataclysm. True, Improved Shadow Bolt is pretty poor, but my reasoning is this:
If you have 4000 mana, and you spent it all on destruction spells (unlikely), you would save only 200 mana. But you already have a mana battery from dark pact, and warlocks are inherently mana efficient, so pushing the efficiency envelope even further is probably not worthwhile, if more killing power can be attained.
Now, I rarely cast shadow bolts (when grouped, I pretty much cast them only when Nightfall procs, although when soloing, I lead with it), but if it crits, I can see this comboing very nicely with shadowburn or death coil in PvP (or even a priest mind blast, if they know what to look for).
Basically, it may be the better of two poor choices.

The improved shadow dmg is eaten up by ticks of shadow damage from both corruption and curse of agony.
The damage improvement is just as poor as the mana conservation. Overall they both suck as starting skills for the Destruction tree and I for one hope they both get a little love. But I went for mana conservation because my build *gasp* does not include Dark Pact, so every little bit helps.

Hi all. First of all i must say that by reading the forum i know much more about character builds and tactics when it comes to PvP.
I want to play a warlock because i think the class isnt gonna be played by a lot of poeple.
my question is: can someone post their talent tree just like the ones being made for rogue. mage etc.
I would really see other ideas, because i never played the game actually.
Getting some help and thought from you guys really would help me think about my talent build.
