Well, thats a wrap...

And while it seems unclear if this upcoming stress test = Open Beta, I cant help but wonder if characters are going to be transfered over... I doubt it but hey, they are keeping the accts active.

What are Nurfed's plans for the new stress? Pass?

If you are receiving this email, you are one of the valued testers currently in World of Warcraft’s closed beta test. This message is to inform you that the beta servers will be coming down at 3:00 PM PDT on Friday, October 29 and will remain offline for a few days in preparation for another stress test. Your account and characters will be active for this stress test, but a new client download will be required. After the game servers come down on Friday the 29th, you will be able to log in to the community site and download the new client.


Once the beta-server preparations are complete, we will announce the start of the stress test, and the servers will come back online. When that happens, you will be able to log back in, download a quick patch, and then continue playing. Please keep an eye on WorldofWarcraft.com for more information about the stress test in the days ahead!"

IF this so-called "stress test" is actually the lead-in to Open Beta, then it appears all our closed beta characters are being transferred as stated here in the email... at the end of the offline period, we'll download another patch and "continue playing..."

I would not think, if they intended to wipe the servers clean for Open, that they'd go through the trouble of transferring all of us with full characters, into the stress test, but they could technically after the stress test is over.

Letting everyone keep their characters for the 'stress test' would make sense to encourage everyone to log on. If they wiped characters, most of us wouldn't even bother logging on during that time.

It's still hard to say, but I hope 'stress test' equals prelude to Open Beta, same servers, same characters.

I just hope they have multiple mirror sites for client download or will start letting you download soon. having to redownload the client is tedious.

It says after the servers go down tomorrow, that you will be able to log into the community site and start downloading the client again. The servers will be down for a 'few days' (who knows how long that is) before they come back up for the stress test, so should be plenty of time to re-download the entire client. I agree, even with broadband, it's very tedious.

So this means that anyone can make a new account , as in no more sharing accounts?

No, it doesn't say anything about people creating new accounts, it's just pertaining to those in closed beta. I would assume, however, that everyone would be able to download the entire thing regardless, but you won't have an open beta account until they announce that and start creating accounts for it... which I'm guessing will be after whatever this 'stress test' thing is...

In the email it says you have to log into the community site to be able to download the new client. So not everyone will be able to until they start handing out new accounts and whatnot for this stress.

I'm just wondering if the stress test is for (former?) closed beta users only, or if it will be open to everybody. I can't see why they would just have CB testers, I mean what's the point of just testing two or three servers...?

Anyways, my guess is they will keep the CB testers on their own servers and have OB going alongside it. And I'm 100% sure the new client will include the hunter/pally talents patch, they were just waiting for it to be done to start this next phase.

Also, the CB forums kerploded. Can't even click on anything without getting that error page.
