Alright.. There's alot of confusion about this, it might seem a bit complicated, but here it goes..

https://www.wow-europe.com/en/Wowsegform/webform.aspx

If my interpretation of this blizzard babble is correct, they will allow europeans to play on the US servers after the european release (this is not the first time they mention this)...

Now, if they allow europeans to play on US servers, they'll allow Americans to play on EU servers (obviously).

They do not allow europeans to play on us servers Right now though, but if you give in an American adress (your friend's adress), they will let you play now.

But after buying the US version and playing on the US servers, will you be able to switch to the european server when the european version is out ? Or is it like this: you use your cd key to create a US account => you can only play on the US servers ?

Someone please answer with some insight and not uninformed nonsense, thank you :)

When in beta the only thing you had to do to switch server was edit a 3-letter word in a .txt file. However, european version costs slightly more, which would make everyone pay via the american version and play on european servers so I doubt it's possible.

erm; that's not a good reason, don't forget they'll think ppl won't go for the US version cause of the shipping costs.. (if they can have the EU version just as well)...

Not really... many people will have no shipping costs, like me. You just need the cd-key... some don't care about the fancy box :) So yes, considering the EU tax and how cheap the US dollar is, I paid much less for the game and subscription, than I'd pay here in Europe. That wasn't the reason of course (I was ready to pay more to play on US servers).

I don't have the answer for your question though. I'm pretty sure we won't be able to transfer characters, but they stated they will let EU players on US servers and vice-versa. Wondering if I could keep chars on both... but it doesn't matter much to me. Honestly I don't give a f*** about Vivendi Europe and their EU release, it's a joke.

EDIT: That message on wow-europe is funny isn't it? "Thank you for purcharsing our game. However, to provide you the best possible gaming experience, we won't let you play."

Well,

Most european player who want play on US server find a way to do it...
(Australian and NZ adress are not checked, neither Ip or Credit Cards)

Watching european forum i'll will estimate about a few thousand players on US servers (most from Uk, germany and north europe)

But due to shipping delay i believe that only a few hundred are already on US server but this nuber will grow soon at the end of the week I guess...

For overcrowded servers I just don't understand how a few (1000 ? 2000?) foreign customers can be guilty over 300k+ US customers ?
(BTW i'v no idea of asian numbers ^^)

About Ip ban question, I believe that customer able to find a way to import the game and activate an account will find a firwall with an US Ip if Blizz' began a ban of foreigners IP...

So except a passport check...

Soon after EU release, US players/account will be able to create new pupets on Eu servers and EU players/account will be able to play on Us servers. That's all...

Aha, that means i'll just go and play on the US servers for now and switch to the EU when EU is out. Hope you're right btw ^^ otherwise i'll lose some cash hehe :)

And guess i'll use an aussie adress ^^

mail from blizzard insider: "For those European gamers still wishing to play with their American friends on the North American servers, and vice versa, Blizzard will provide a means to make this possible after the European launch." ..

I dont know what the fuss is all about. I bought my copy of wow us on 23. at a local store here in Switzerland and could play right away.

Of course I changed the country to Australia. Appart from that everything is true.
