Hey guys. Ive got a serious question here as it will most likely affect my entire WoW career.
I want to play a class that has the ability to solo well, can pvp well, and is wanted by guilds and groups later on in life. The problem is that I wasnt fast enough to get into either Beta so im gona have to rely on you guys to give me some hints here. Both melee and caster is fine... actually Id rather prefer caster, but I can deal with melee as a new experience.
After reading about all the websites and stuff Ive wanted to try out every class other then shaman (because it seems like there gona be overplayed as is) and atm im leaning towards Rogue. Problem is that I dont know if they can solo what so ever so any hints?

rogues are awesome for soloing, and IMO very helpful in PVP. If there is a class that is annoying and at the same time dangerous, its the rogue. She can kill any freaking cloth wearer (if played right, and talent builded right)
Ambush build for the win! :P

IMO, rogues solo exquisitely. When theres one thing to fight. Get two guys on you and you're screwed. I'd say hunter sounds good for you - they have a pet @ lvl 10 as a meat shield, and can dish out quite a bit of dmg, not much down time if you have first aid as well for your pet. If you're like me and dont like pets, then you may like paladin, they are a survivor class that fare pretty well soloing.

I was going to say shaman until I read that last sentence. Rogues are good soloers and they don't have to worry about fighting 2 mobs if you happen to have blade flurry. I played a rogue up to 57 in CB and had a great deal of trouble finding groups despite how good of a rogue I thought I was. I played a priest and had no trouble at all. It probably has something to do with healing. I would recommend warlock because they're underplayed and they're useful. Healthstones, soulstones, and summon can save you and your friends a lot of time. Also you have the best debuffs in the game.

I'll give stars, out 0f 3, based on my experence:
Druid:
Solo ?
Group **
Never played a druid, but those I have played with have been great. Healers, best buff in the game, and the ability to shapeshift for the situation makes druids very cool.
Mage:
Solo **
Group ***
Drinking downtime, and easily overcome if adds occur. Otherwise mages are sought after by almost any group for CC and their DPS.
Hunter:
Solo ?
Group ?
Dunno, never played Hunter
Priest:
Solo *
Group ***
What I've heard, priest solo slowly (unless shadow speced). I've never been in a group that turned down a Priest.
Rogue:
Solo ***
Group *
Sneaky, and great DPS. Maybe its the fact I've not grouped with many good rogues, but most time a group will look for other classes.
Shaman:
Solo ***
Group ***
Shaman's are all that and a bag of chips. They are highly sought and can do a bit of everything. Unfortunally, they aren't as great at particular areas as a more specilized class.
Warlock:
Solo ***
Group **
Warlocks can grind all day with no downtime if done correctly. They really shine in groups where there are mutiple targets, though Warlocks are the most difficult class to play out of all the classes I've tried.
Warrior:
Solo ***
Group ***
Everyone loves the Warrior, and the warrior can solo very well. Nuff said.
As for PvP, its more about skill, equipment, and level. I've seen all classes PvP well, and also seen classes suck at pvp.

Id give the warrior two ** for solo and three *** for groups only for horde
ANd three *** for solo mages :) !
My 59 warrior solos not nearly as good as a 59 mage.
