View Full Version : Organizing a "roaming" 5v5 PVP night

Ive made a post about this before and received great feedback.. ive got a couple more questions now after just finishing our first 5v5 night on my server.

First of all we had a HUGE turnout which was awesome. About 5-6 guilds brought out groups and we had around 30-40 people wanting to do 5v5 guild vs guild, group PVP.

Some issues came up with keeping everyone seperated and "roaming".

How do you keep everyone "roaming" and looking for their own fights.. we ended up with just a huge clusterFk of people standing around waiting to start a 5v5. I was under the impression these nights were supposed to be "roaming" PVP nights where each group roamed a zone looking for another guild group to fight.. then rezzed/medded up and roamed again looking for another fight.
When nurfed sets these up do you guys care if people just stand around in one spot... then move to the road to start their fight? Or do you set it up so that everyone is moving around the entire zone between fights..... im completely confused about the "Roaming" part... saw this in the title of Vhell's priest vid and noticed that not that many bystanders are around the fights.. looks like you guys just dismounted when you saw a group riding around.. not like 30 people are standing around waiting for their turn.

Is there something Im not getting here? Do you guys NOT invite out multiple guilds and bring out multiple Nurfed groups to these things? Do you guys just bring out a group of 5 and only PVP against a few other groups of 5? Not inviting out other Horde guilds to come PVP also?

I ask because it seems like alot of work to ask Alliance to meet 1 group in a zone to PVP... and then have them wait while other alliance groups PVP you.. seems like you need multiple Horde and Alliance guilds to balance things out and rotate fights.. to keep everyone busy.

If anyone has any advice on how to keep multiple guilds in 1 zone PVPing in seperate groups of 5 Id love to hear it..

Vhell did a great job of organizing these things.

I think one of the biggest tricks was to set up a "track" people would run around the zone in. Either direction, fight the group you run into first. IRC helps a lot to organize the fights, find out if they want a rematch/whatever.

Pick a zone and design the run around, dont tell people which zone or put out the picture of the track unless you invite them to the 5 man, this is to try and keep random people out of it. Again, IRC helps a lot for this coordination.

I think the rules tended to change a bit, but you never mess with a fight in progress, try to avoid fights, dont just ride right thru a 5v5 it's distracting and confusing.

Attacking a group that is medding still is generally pointless, they are not ready, you wont get a good fight.

The best fights are when you would run into another 5 man comming in the oppsite direction and dismount and fight immeadality. Finding a sitting group or standing around for a while before you engauge kind of ruins it, gives everybody time to pick out the best targets.

really depends on the group, its a good idea to tell people not to watch fights that way everyone stays moving and you know who is ready for a fight and who isn't. We had a ::RULE:: which some people kept and other abused which said that people off the road were not ready for a fight. So basically the fights take place on the roads, and if you are riding past a fight you go off the road out of the way and then come back on to hopefully find others moving. IRC helps a lot, and not having dbags like discordia abusing shit also helps quite a bit. In general after a few of them you can find out which groups are there to have a good time pvping and which ones are there to be assholes/flaunt their victories on the forums by going all out / engaging when people were not ready/gang banging on fights and you can just not invite them for the next one.

Well we did encounter some clusterfucks as well, where there were about 2-3 fights going on adjacent to eachother, as well as a bunch of people standing around and watching.

However, the problem with 50 people in the same place makes a crapload of lag, which in turn, makes the fights themselves impossible. Therefore, people realized this and started hauling their asses away to different parts of the map.

Like Wake said, IRC is the key. As my group moved south, almost all the way to barrens, one of the group memebers announced where we were on IRC and almost immediately we had a response from 2 alliance groups that they were on their way there to meet us.

Hope this helped.

I think everyone ought to yell at Vhell for not organizing this event again.

The whole relentless guild left AV long enough to play some nice 5 on 5s in the arena, you were there, were you not?

It's safe to say that they will leave.

There are 2, maybe 3 groups of relentless that would (coincidentally they are the best players the alliance has). the rest of the alliance wont.

Wow thanks for the detailed info guys! Makes alot more sense now.. I think we'll use Desolace for our next 5v5 night.. have alliance go 1 direction around the Kodo graveyard road and Horde go the other way. Should keep the confusion to a minimum.

after posting my questions here I received a ton of good posts from guilds that had fun even with the confusion and standing around. Seems like BG's and DK's have really got people itching for more "death match" style PVP where it doesnt have anything to do with farming.

Also the perk of doing nights like this is since everyone is in the same area its easy to get a ton of duels in afterwards. Gives everyone a reason to get better gear and practice PVP skills.. you cant tell whats going on in CTF and AV.. 5v5 and 1v1 is true PVP.. the best is still standing afterwards. Not running off with a flag.

We need both types of PVP.. hope Blizz fixes this soon. Until then Im going to try to keep these nights going.

Thx again..

So people move along the roads to make sure they meet each other - makes sense. But how do you start the event? Do you give every Team a starting point along the road?
