Are you guys going to have a in-game chat channel? Reason I ask is i'm going into WoW blind, no affiliations other than friends from Monkly Business. As such i'm not really interested in joining a guild atm but I am interested in place hang out and find groups. I always leave general chat so I need a replacement, somewhere I have a better than .03% chance of getting a group who actually knows what the fuck they're doing..

No plans to make a chat channel, eventually it would become just like another general channel, only chat channels are server wide, so it may become worse than general since anyone would be able to join it.

Any chance you know of any that were formed during beta and will carry over? Or do you just use /guild and vent/teamspeak?

You would probably be best off finding a casual guild to hook up with. General is going to be a complete mess with all the new people and none of the CB players are going to have the patience for all that.

You just agreed with my point and contradicted it in the same sentence.. :?
I am not a casual player, I am the complete opposite of a casual player.. When I find a guild I will not be looking for a casual guild. If I was i'd be content to join the rest of the sheep in general hollaring about "WHERE CAN I FIND TEH CHICKEN FETHERS FOR TEH QUEST?".
I just don't have the advantage of being in CB and therefore already finding a pack to run with.. this doesn't mean I want to be lumped into the horde of newbs swarming to smell the roses.

I don't know of any channels that will carry over, we pretty much just use /guild and ventrilo. There could be one somewhere, but i just don't know of any.
Chat channels CAN be moderated so you can kick and ban players, but no one wants to be a mod while they are playing a game and that's probably the main reason these channels don't exist currently, but may in the future.

But you ARE a newb. Enjoy it, you only get to be a newb once. ;)

Well I managed to make it to level 36 in ST/OB so i'm at least only half-newb now.
And if by enjoying it you mean clusterfuck with all the noobs and wipe 20 times doing WC, i'd rather not thanks.
It's the same way in every game.. there's "newbs", and then there's "n00bs", if you know what i'm saying.
And if you don't.. I suggest you catch Chris Rock on HBO one night so he can explain the difference between black folk and n*****s to you. Same basic principle.

Nah, I meant the process of discovery the first time is fun. Also, all those quest tips in general chat can actually benefit you rather than just annoy.
If you got to level 36 in ST/OB, you already know how to level pretty well. I'd say it's just a case of running into as many closed beta testers as possible and getting them on your friends list. Also try to pick up people with expertise in different trades. Also, as a shaman whose guild broke up at the end of CB, for OB I tried to find a good, fair blacksmith, leatherworker, alchemist, and enchanter to put on my f list and then just smart folks to fill out the rest.
Hopefully by level 40 you've made your way into a good guild through these relationships and will be on track to enjoy the end-game content.

I didn't mean to insult you by suggesting you look for a casual guild. Quite a few "casual guilds" from CB had some serious players ... it was just a looser affiliate of people, so if you wouldn't feel bad moving on at some point when you found a guild you liked.
Also, if you can level quickly, the dynamic of general chat will completely change once you get out of the Barrens. If I didn't have my guild already I wouldn't even waste my time with WC.

Any such channels would have to be private to be useful anyway, look at the general content of this board.
Plus if you're not a casual player you'll be finding yourself in friendly pastures within a small amount of time, it's not hard to hook up with the like minded in game.
And even "noobs" don't wipe in WC (surely?!).
