I just got the plans for the Champion, and I just wanted to know what everyone's opinion is about it. I really do not want to spend a ton of money to get the reaper. I just want to know how well the Champion cna stack up to to Reaper....

Just get the Ice Barbed Spear until you get The Unstoppable Force or a MC weapon drop. If you're intent on making a weapon the Arc. Reaper is the only real choice.

Easy one, Reaper hands down. If you really want a sword, you need to be in a guild that does MC or the new BWL regularly. We know of 3 swords that drop in those places that are suitable substitutes for and arguably better than Reaper; Obsidian Edge Blade, Untamed Blade, and Bonereaver. Personally, I have doomsaw and am saving my DKP for OEB, since that is the one I am most likely to see, and I will see it before I could save the arcanite for Reaper (still need 9 more) since pretty much all I have been doing is running MC and Onyxia. Only a few warriors and paladins have more DKP than me and I doubt they will be willing to outbid me on it. Besides, I would rather save my arcanite for Stronghold guantlets.
