... and I have a couple of my personal experiences. Before i go any further, I started my first warrior in stress 1 but hurricanes raped me and i couldnt play further. 2nd stress test i started another one and i got him to 42 before open ended (or is going to end tonight).
so as you can see i have no end game experience so if what im saying is just blatantly wrong or whatever just ignore it.
You said you had a huge problem with tanking single mobs (bosses ect) after the patch. I also had that problem and much like you set out to try to use any combo of abiltiies to try to keep aggro. In the end after i hit 40 i really only used two. Did SM and RFD in this span of levels so i actually got my share of fighting some bosses. Sunder Armor (yeah jank -_-) and Mortal Strike. Charge boss and immediately begin to spam Sunder. Worked like a charm every time. After sunder is maxed out debuf f just started to MS/Sunder whenever possible because MS seems to be good aggro in itself. Im not sure if many people even use sunder armor but it worked. Pre-40 Sunder armor alone worked just fine too.
On the clearing aspect i noticed you used whirlwind in the fury tree. I never even bothered to do this and just stuck with arms and only used 3 abilities. Sweeping Strikes followed by 5 (if rage permitted)Cleaves. This part is bugged though because for some reason every time i cleaved while SS was up i would get anywhere from 5-6 hits in on the 2 mobs, whereas calculating it out you should just get a hard 4 (cleave hits both mobs, each triggers SS for each other). I would try to keep the pulls to 2 mobs to allow this to effectively and efficiently work but if 3+ id usually just use demo shout as a filler on the extra mobs. Maybe throw in a thunder clap. You burn through mobs so fast that you will be on the ones you arent hitting before anyone even has a chance to pull aggro. Another interesting point is the SS attacks were not logged by the WoW servers i guess (they wouldnt show up in chat) so all id see is the 5-6 yellow numbers spamming my screen, but the damage was defintely there. I was doing more DPS on a 2 pull than rogues in my group were as well. You might say "all this really is hindered by rage generation" but as long as you can keep 2 mobs on you from the start (not hard with the initial hit from SS) you will basically have enough rage to fire off at least 2-3 cleaves out of the 5 SS rounds. Dealing massive damage and massive hate to continaully fuel the tanking fire.
In ending i wish tanking was still where it was before, pre-patch I went against the grain and defensive speced alot using sword/shield and pumping up the shield block talent line (whichever one allowed the actual ability to block more attacks per use). I didnt care i wasnt doing as much dmg but as you said i enjoyed knowing that i was taking the least possible amount and keeping everyone alive.
Anyway if these are the points of a newb who just doesnt get how end game works (i know how that is, played EQ for 4 years as the same warrior.. sometimes people just dont know what they are talking about) then im sorry i wasted your time. Thanks for the work on warriors and i really hope you dont switch to rogue.
Ill kill some DIE for you on the east coast =D
