Aye it is, glad I live in a central time zone, convenient excuse. Myself and two RL friends will be going pvp central. Possibly RP pvp central to escape some of the less mature crowd, we'll see if they make one.
Anyone here from eq that played on mthule? (Thunderwalkers)

The problem, though, is that if you look at SiN's list, the Horde PK guilds outnumber the Alliance guilds by about 1.6 : 1.
The only zerging that's going to happen is the horde zerging the alliance.
This is too bad, because I am really attached to the horde.

No, half the guilds signing up on that list are very small guilds who won't field that many players methinks, and they you've got to factor in all the guilds -not- signing up who will form under the sheer numbers of alliance who will just be there by normal methods. Alliance has always outnumbered Horde in overall population, even if only at lower levels. You know what I'm talking about. Log a char. into IF at any time day/night and be guaranteed a crowd sitting outside auction house and bank. Not so in Orgrimmar unless prime-time.
There will be tons of 'casual' alliance players just like there was in PvP closed beta. Now... whether those will be any worthy opponent is a different matter entirely.

I'm gonna camp out front of my local EB, grab the game when it opens, and speed home hoping I don't get a ticket. Gonna have to get out of Durotar asap.

Just as an FYI, Denied Society and Oinland (which are both guilds from Ultima Online - Chesapeake shard) will be playing the central 6 pvp server. We were hated enemies in UO for about 5 years, but it looks like we will be on the same side. We generally have 10-15 members each, and look forward to fighting all the Horde guilds. Besides the ones mentioned on the SiN webiste, are other guilds we have fought in UO like Keepers of Chaos, Shadow Syndicate, Dark Arcane, etc and they will be going Horde. Should be some interesting fighting, as none of the guilds I mentioned are large in number, but have been fighting together for years and have excellent group coordination and communication.

Yeah , that server = zerg Central imho :?
By the looks of the list. I think it is fairly obvious that the Horde is looking stronger. I don't think you can rely on the average Joe to be joining this server in flocks, and picking the Alliance. I think most will avoid the server, and the ones that do accidently pick the server will move within a couple months.
However, the stronger the Horde looks the more the average-guildless guy is going to pick the Horde. So at retail my guess is that it's going to be the Horde's side that's going to be booming.
In any case, I keep hearing references to "Oh the Alliance is going to out number the Horde." because casual gamers are going to pick the shiny-cool characters.
I wonder if that has anything to do with all the griefers picking the Horde?

I can't offer an explanation for the 'most populated server' phenomenon, but I can begin to rationalize the average user's choice of alliance over horde. There are two types of casual gamers that will be very influenced by the pull that Alliance exercises over a player and here is a brief stereotyping of said players:
1) Females - I hope that Envie will back me up on this, most females playing MMO's want the prettiest or cutest character in the game. Both of these races reside on the alliance side, mainly Night Elves and Gnomes. The average girl is not going to install, look at an orc and say 'Damn thats sexay!' It takes a special type of player to do so... Look at Kylie Jennings for example.
2) Do Gooders - Believe it or not, there are a large number of players who pick the seemingly 'good' side when playing because they feel stronger bonds to the ethics and morals that these characters exhibit day in and day out. Kicking some evil-doer ass ranks highly on their 'todo' list and they will be holding long term grudges against the 'tainted' races of the horde.
Having played DAOC on multiple servers, the Alliance always seemed to outnumber the other realms by a ratio of at least 2:1, yet also made up a much smaller portion of the 'power gamer' group that tended to inhabit the 'darker' realms.

Heh...I usually pick the "Evil" side preciely becuz its evil.
Dark Side 4tw....wait, wrong game...nvm.......
(btw, in my mind neither horde or alliance either one is really good or evil)

Sadly all my friends will be going Alliance and will be playing on a PvE server, which is odd since they all PvPed so much with me in UO. One friend is adamantly against playing Horde and was the same way with playing Midgard in DAOC. He's all about being a Human and occasionally an Elf...
So looks like I'll be striking out on my own and making new friends here. Hope I enjoy it.

Yeah, it's too bad :-/
But you have to do what you want to do.
I just don't think I'd be happy playing Alliance and I don't think I'd be happy playing on a PvE server.

Sucks that some of you have friend playing the Alliance. My friend will be a Troll Mage while me as an Undead Priest so we won't get to play right off the bat, but at least we will get to group together and I hope we get a chance to group with some nurfed members.
