View Full Version : Dal: your PoV on Iron Will/Toughness

I was wondering how much AC the 10% bonus from toughness works out to be at lvl 60. Also I plan on going orc - warrior for retail and with iron will orcs would have a 40% passive resistance to stuns that I find quite appealing, not to mention the extra 15% resistance to charms.

What's your take on it?

Iron will is a waste on points imo unless you already plan on going down the defensive tree. However if you do plan to go down that tree and are a orc then yes 40% stun resist is very sexy. Toughness also sucks, both are skills that I consider fillers when meeting prereqs for other defensive stuff, neither are something I would go out of my way to get... like for example Enrage.

Yea, I'm still trying to decide. If i go for the 40% stun resist in my build I have to give up everything in the fury tree except cruelty.

I dont feel 15% more stun resist is worth giving up Piercing Howl and Enrage.

Yea, you're right. I got fixated on that 40%

While I have your attention here is one last question. Now that racial traits are finalized are you still planning to go undead for retail?

Yeah Im going to be sticking with undead. I was thinking about tauren for a hot minute but then came to my senses. I hate the way undead look but you can't overlook Will of the forsaken. Not to mention Undead wars are much scarcer then taurens and orcs and I like being at least a little bit less common then everyone else.

Landogarner

I prefer to be less common also and I like the undead starting quests 1-14 better then orc, imo undead look cooler then orcs. The spiky hair and glowing eyes are pretty badass looking, especially when you can get those head items that cover your face so all you see are the glowing eyes staring back at you.

Tough decision as I usually just take my orc to brill at lvl 6 to start those quests. Anyways, thanks for taking the time to respond indal. My highest char is only 32 because I want to save all the high end content for retail so it is hard to judge some things without actually having tried them in PvP etc.

undead = poo

funny you said that you were thinking of changing over to alliance, b/c after doing some testing in OB i have decided to switch over to alliance. there are more combinations of good race/classes. plus i seem to have just grown an overall likeing for NE for some reason? ever since racial traits..... i dunno why.... prolly b/c their traits make for godly rogues and good warriors.

are you serious? Will of Forsaken >> anything aliance has. Maybe if you are into stealth ambush/ganking NE hunter might be semi decent, rest is trash.

Alliance Rogues godly? heh UD rogue >>>>> any other, cheap shot, pop the will=dead priest, warlock. Even if stunlock fails they cant do anything to escape. Skill needed to win? zero

Blizzar really droped a ball on that one.

Will of Forsaken >> anything aliance has.

gnome active trait...

I have to say gnome snare removal < Will of the forsaken

Will = immune to all CC & fear for 15 seconds

Gnome = remove 1 root or snare OR drink a freaking potion of free action....

<3 != gnome

Will of the Forsaken gives only gives immunity to sap sheep and fear, not root or snare. Also you must have it on -before- one of those spells is cast on you.

Gnome trait removes all root/snares currently effecting you when you use it, and has a 30second reuse. Even freeaction pot must be used beforehand, therefor Gnome active trait > all

actually will of the forsaken can be activated after the fear lands and will break it.

Ud warlock > all, except maybe priests.

100% positive. Both Will of the Forsaken and Berserker Rage can be activated in response to fear, Death Wish can also but for some reason this one doesn't stop the fear.

I've actually been looking at an optional spec down defensive (after the 5 points in cruelty). I have felt that spending your points between 3 skill trees will just lock yourself out of the better mid-tier abilities, but going orc that 15% coupled with the rest isn't looking so bad:

Protection Talents (15 points)

Anticipation - 5/5 points
Increases your Defense skill by 10.

Iron Will - 5/5 points
Increases your chance to resist stun and charm effects by 15%.

Improved Bloodrage - 2/2 points
Reduces the duration required to generate rage from your Bloodrage ability by 4 seconds.

Improved Revenge - 2/3 points
Gives your Revenge ability a 30% chance to stun the target for 3 seconds.

Last Stand - 1/1 point
When activated, this ability temporarily grants you 30% of your maximum hit points for 20 seconds. After the effect expires, the hit points are lost.
Last stand and Improved Revenge with a 30% chance to stun for 3 seconds is looking nice. I'm not looking at this to even get Iron Will, but with how much Revenge lights up and having an "oh shit" ability like Last Stand it might be more useful than Enraged's 40% bonus on crit.

Times like this I wished beta didn't end today =\

Guess Beserker Rage isn't totaly useless after all.

Can the fear protection ability from Glimmering Mithril Insignia be activated in response to a fear effect, or does it have to be activated ahead of time?

Dashiva

That has to be ahead of time, you cant click any items while you are feared.

Doodle

almost every racial trait the horde has >>>> anything the alliance has

will of the forsaken >>> all imo

Saxony

Normally you can't click any abilities while feared either. What about the warrior fury abilities. Can both berserker rage and death wish be activated after you have been feared?
