Anyways, I've decided to go Horde on retail instead of Alliance.. I made a Shaman in the OB and I've leveled him a bit.. but there's still a few questions (with retail nearing..)

When do you start grouping?

If you start Undead, when do you head to Kalimdor?

If you start Orc/Tauren/Troll, do you head to Undercity?

Valley of Trials to Sen'Jin/some Razor Hill to the Rest of Razor Hill to XR to STP?

o_O

What are the level ranges for the instances about ? Ragefire = 14+ ? Wailing Caverns = 20+? SFK? RFK?

Just looking for basic shit so I'm a little less clueless come retail.

(The title is a just a joke btw  )

Thanks.

I'm not nurfed, but I can answer this one.

I've been using the UI to track exp/hour of various activities and MOBs to kill at certain levels for the sake of leveling effeciency.

Your best bet is to just go do a few of the quests to become familiar with them, and which ones can be done quickly while you get good experience off of kills.

The other quests that do not result in items you need for leveling should be ignored in my opinion. They just slow you down if you are trying to level quickly. My basic rule is that if a quest involves more than 8-10 minutes of running around and talking without fighting, then I'm doing it for the story-line because I could have gotten more exp by grinding.

Low level instances for me where also a waste of time unless it was for items. Even with a good group that fought almost constantly in Rage Fire Chasm (lvl 13-18/19), Wailing Caverns (level 19-25), and Shadowfang Keep (level 19-26), I was getting about 2/3 of the experience that I got solo at those same levels. For example, fighting constantly in Wailing Caverns got us about 9000 exp/hour, while at level 20 solo, I could get about 12,000-13,000 solo by grinding in South Barrens.

For a Rogue, I do suggest one Wailing Caverns Quest run just to get a Wingblade or, if you are lucky, a Stinging Viper (as you will probably use these as a weapon for the next 10 levels or so).

I'll comment on more later if I have time.

Heh, My main will be a rogue.. and I was planning on doing WC just for the Wingblade actually. ;)

Thanks for the info and I'll keep it in mind, still open to more input of course.

(Leveling, while of course is my main goal to reach end-game PvP.. isn't my *only* goal, because that'd be a waste of a monthly fee ;))

hrhr :D

hm id say the early instances are only good to finish quest and get main quest reward (blue :D)
I prefer to visit two beginner regions for example Durotar and Tirisfal so i enter the barrens with 12-14.

When do you start grouping?

I begin grouping once I finish the early 'newbie' lands (Brill for Undead) and have hit level 10.

If you start Undead, when do you head to Kalimdor?

Basically, you want to work it so that you do all the quests in silverpine that are yellow/green to you and non-elite. Once you've finished all of those, head over to kalimdor and do the barrens quests and upper durotar quests that are green/yellow then return to Silverpine. I would recommend saving any elite quests + SFK until you're at least lvl 20.

If you start Orc/Tauren/Troll, do you head to Undercity? Same deal, finish Durotar or Mulgore and hit the barrens/ratchet, finish all the green/yellow quests there then return to Silverpine.

Valley of Trials to Sen'Jin/some Razor Hill to the Rest of Razor Hill to XR to STP?
Depending on server population, sen'jin might be a bit high lvl. I prefer to do The Den->Razor Hill easy quests->Sen'Jin->Second tier of Razor Hill Quests->Harpy quests to the north->Thrall's Quest in Skull Rock then hit the third tier of razor hill quests on the way back to the barrens.

I have not done ragefire but I've been told 14-17. SFK requires 20+ for casters, 23+ for melees. RFK is 27-30.

We nearly finished SFK when the highest level in the group was a 21 Priest. 2 20 Rogues, a 19 Warlock, and a 19 Mage who had no idea how to Polymorph.

Most of the MOBs are level 19-22 elites. I don't see any point going much after you hit level 23-24, let alone that being the minimum level to go.

I don't know how far you got, but later on there are many 24 and 25 elite sons of arugal and the final 2 bosses are 26 and 27. I really don't think it's possible to do those when your highest level is 21. And there is a point in going there - Arugal drops awesome caster robe and belt which will more than likely last cloth users many levels and the daggers is great for rogues and shamans (probably good until RFK).

The most important thing to remmeber is when soloing do only green quests, and grind otherwise. When grouped do as many quests as possible to make full use of the group.

Heres the way I do it as undead:
Quest in Brill until about 7-8 and head to Razor Hill.
Quest in razor and sen'jin village then move to xroads.
Do a bit in xroads and hearth back to Brill
Finish Brill then move to Sepulcher and do half
Then move back to xroads and do as much as possible there.
Return to Brill, finish up, should be lev 22 by this time.

The other lazy way (but u miss quests) is to skip razor hill and sen'jin and just do all of Brill then goto xroads.

I think that really depends on your class.

On my hunter I went from 25-29 in 1 day (about 6 hours) soloing yellow/orange quests in red-ridge/wetlands (yes I'm an alliance schmuck :P) I dunno but to me that seems like a decent rate.

Certain classes just can't solo quests that are yellow/orange, but others can quite easily. I even did a couple red quests. Is it more xp efficient to wait until they're green? It's been my experience that on some quests by the time they're green 1/2 the mobs involved are grey, which seriously lessens the xp.

if there are the same amount of quests in redridge as there were in dwarven alpha, I'd say you're on par for alliance getting 3 levels in a 6 hour period. People on alliance truly don't realize how much they get catered to by blizzard.
