Hey everyone, big fan of Nurfed and always will be. Now with the big ol' kick in the ass on the warriors I gave up. Looking for a straight out PvP Priest. Thank you all very much for your feed back. If you have any comments on what to do or what not to do with the builds you post please throw em up! Once again looking for a extremely well formed Priest for PvP that can really hold his own and give out a heal here and there, thanks.

The point of a priest that Envie and Tivoli have driven into my mind over and over and over again, and which has been reinforced by my raids with them, and my adventures with klay is that yes... we can spec into shadow to get flay....
BUT
That's 11 points that you don't have to put into disc or holy, which can improve your healing in instances AND in raids. After all, you -are- the main healer. It's your job to keep people alive while they kill others off. You can throw in the odd SWP or mind blast here and there, or shield, but it's your job to keep them alive.
If you're off mind flaying, there's a very good chance that you'll miss out on a critical heal, either needing to shield them quickly, running the risk of getting tons of people in pvp on you, or them dying.
Basic case and point, you're there to heal. You're there to keep people alive. If you want to go out and do damage, be a mage or a warrior or a rogue. Don't be a priest. If you go off and spend a ton of mana on mind blasting/smiting/flaying people, you have that much less mana to heal your party with. When your party starts dying, it's only a matter of time before you to will become the target of the enemy (even though you usually are anyways...) and die. This is neither beneficial nor fun.
Again, I will reiterate, you do your damage -when you can- and when it won't take away from your healing. DOTS are great for that.
And I bet you 98% that Envie and Tivoli will agree on every point I made. :P

i just want to know if Spirit Tap is worth the points. It sounds good but how good can it really be?

If you solo alot it's very helpful bceause it reduces downtime and saves quite a bit of money for water. And you can always respec when you reach a high level and start pvping more for just 1 gold so IMO it's worth it.

It's just respec, not respect ;) Just to clarify.

I'm wondering about pvp uses though... seems like if you get a killshot that it could mean win or lose with your mana coming back up for heals.

You won't get killing blows in groups, pvp or otherwise. Just not gonna happen.

Nah, it's not imspossible. You just have to be a good player.
Our shadow priest rarely runs out of mana. Of course he hoards mana pots and probably isnt chain casting, but he just about always gets the kill shot.
You have to take into consideration who's hitting your target, I'm sure it's not easy.

Although I am currently only level 29, this is the build i plan on using, and if all works well with it, I think it is a perfect build =]
Basically, from what I see of the 30 talent point skills, none of them are really worth it, except for maybe shadowform and who wants to be a shadow priest :D thats what mages are for. So my idea is to spread across all three trees
Here is a copy of my thottbot plan:
Holy Mastery
Improved Renew Rank 5
Spiritual Healing Rank 5
Subtlety Rank 5
Improved Healing Rank 3
Improved Flash Heal Rank 2
Spirit of Redemption Rank 1
Holy Total: 21
Shadow Mastery
Spirit Tap Rank 5
Improved Shadow Word: Pain Rank 2
Shadow Focus Rank 3
Mind Flay Rank 1
Shadow Total: 11
Discipline Mastery
Unbreakable Will Rank 5
Improved Power Word: Shield Rank 3
Improved Power Word: Fortitiude Rank 2
Mental Agility Rank 5
Improved Mana Burn Rank 2
Discipline Total: 17
Total Points Spent: 49
Level Required: 58
It does take up to level 57 to get, and the order I am putting it in is very wacky, but basically, I finish the shadow tree first and then get improve sheild / fort and then do holy tree, then finish up the disp tree
The reason I went for a talent build like this is for a couple main spells:
Spirit of Redemption
Mind Flay
Imp Mana Burn
Imp PW:Shield
Imp PW:Fort
When I play a priest, I am the primary healer, I have a secondary healer but he mostly does damage so I want to be able to keep everyone in tip top shape, which is why I spend the points in holy, with imp renew and spiritual healing, that is 30% more life from my renew, and I dont know about higher level priests but I use renew ALL THE TIME.
Now, as people have been saying in this forum page so far, priests are here to heal, not deal damage, blah blah blah, but I firmly support that we can do both, VERY WELL. When a fight happens, my job is as follows : slap a SW:Pain on everyone we just aggro'd and heal everyone, and when I see someone close to death, my party stops fighting that mob, moves onto another, and I finish with Mind Flay (which by the way, does lots of damage very fast) which causes me to get spirit tap, keeping my mana mostly full. Obviously, if someone is near critical at all, I wont kill the mob but instead heal.
Now, you asked for a pvp build, and I beileve this build is perfect for that... from what I understand about high end PvP, mana burn has a LOT to do with it, which is why I get imp mana burn, and it is also the reason I get it last. Currently, I rarely use mana burn in fights, because usually people are running away from me and I dont have time for a 3 second cast =] Not to mention, that mind flay tends to be an AMAZING pvp ability at least in small groups
To explain some talents that some people might not agree with: Spirit of Redemption- I dont know when, or how useful this becomes, but there are sometimes, although rare when I am completely out of mana, I have used my lantern to heal and have bandaged people plus used a potion and am completely spent, and when this happens it is my firm beilef that it is time to sacrifice yourself for the greater good and get a rez later =]
Imp PW: Shield / Fort - I dont know if anyone disagrees with these, but in my mind I could have saved a couple people 10% durability because of the 15 seconds of weakened soul
Another argument as to why shadow mastery is good: as I said, when a fight comes along, I slap DOTS on the world and then kick back and heal, and what my friend (who is a shadow priest) doesnt seem to realize is that imp SW:Pain increases its damage by 33% (originally has 6 ticks, has 8 ticks after 2 points) so with this talent, I now have 24 seconds until I have to worry about that.
Hopefully this has been of some help... sorry if it hops around a lot... I just finished writing a paper and im tired of typing :D

I totally disagree that shadow is totally worthless. I had a 17 preist before wipe, and I could dish out quite a bit of damage, the only thing I felt I was lacking on was ability to take damage, which is a problem for all preists. I did 5/5 spirit tap first, mainly because that greatly reduces downtime, and it very much helps a preist solo.

Personally i think shadow priests are worthless, unless in a group or guild they have too many priests(wich will happen very rarely :P), but only in that case will the shadow priest be useful since he can blow out all his mana into offensive w/o having the problem of healing himself, since in his group , there is a priest (disc/holy speced).
But the fact is, that in groups and guilds, people do lack of priests, and that is why we need holy/disc priest, cuz we all know that shadow priest will never ever be able to make the heals that a holy/disc priest can.
Hence, if your soloing, Shadow priest for the win :D

(thanks for the more detailed reply Hybby, yes I agree with pretty much everything you stated)
Bottom Line here fellas: WHAT are you playing a priest for? For yourself? Then please, do everyone a favor and go with warlock or mage if you wish to be a PvP god. The priest is a HEALER, the main focus healer of WoW. Anyone who chooses to specialize fully into the shadow tree and ignore the benefits and healing efficiency of the other trees does not have the interests of his group as priority, which I'm sorry to break it to you, is the main focus of your job in the game.
Sure, build yourself a shadow priest and be not only a sub-par priest, but a watered down dps class to boot!
Anyone who tells me, after playing a priest to level 17 and feels they have some authority to say a shadow priest works 'just great' and that they don't see why people preach against it, really needs to sit back down in the back of the class and take some more notes.

I agree with Envie.
I myself actually plan on going a heavy Holy, Disc build.
Maybe 5 into Shadow for spirit tap
