View Full Version : Are you going to attempt Onyxia?
Read about a lame competition to get people to test out the raidstuff and well, are you going to do it?
Just curious.

Waiting to see if they fix the current 5 day timer bug that keeps players from previous failed attempts from joining a new instance. This issue severely hampers anyone's ability to add extra level 60s on the fly as needed while forming up and attempting Onyxia...

I know we have plans to try, but if they don't fix that bug, it will be twice as difficult as it already should be for a major 40 man raid instance.

Tried it once earlier, it's just crazy. Seems like there is some trick or something but blizz isn't saying anything. Unless someone figures it out I don't see anyone doing it. Stay the hell away from her breath if you can :)

some ppl suggest that every1 has to be wearing the amulet u purchase to dmg her..or something.
There has been a lot of things posted on the main message boards about her about the lore behind her and other dragons basicly.
Though there may be some special trick to beating her, I think right now people can still take her down with good tactics and orginized healing.
She has been taken down to 85 percent with a raid of 40 before healers ran oom but they were spam healing.
I dont think there have been any real orginized raids on her. Most of the raids are just all healers spam heal 1 tank and everyone go at her from the sides. A lot of the raids are finding out the hard way that her turning her head or tail twards the casters is a garonteed wipe :P
Ohh to add another thing, most raids are giving up after the first failed attempt due to non dedicated members leaving because of equipment damage from clearing trash mobs before her and attempting her.
I think the trash mobs repop once you fail her.

There is 4 onyxian guardians that you need to clear before getting to Onyxia and they arent exactly trash :P One of those things can wipe your raid if you mess up or arent organized enough. They have like 2000 damage aoe that goes off about every 5 seconds or so and they hit hard.

Very cool video here that Dogma guild guys made of their attempt at taking her down...

It's especially cute because you get to hear the gnome mage's voice "I need to get closer!" while he's trying to stay back out of her way, LOL
Definitely worth downloading.

Be prepared for repair costs. You guys have good gear and its expensive to repair. Best plan might be to just go in and see whats up one or two times, then wait for the patch.
If you ever need another priest, gimme a call!

From that video on the Dogma raid, it looks like hardly anyone was wearing fire resitance gear.
I took a quick look at the chart Blizzard posted when they did resists and it seem slike if people had both resist gear and buffs they would stand a pretty high chance of not taking full damage from Onyxia's fire breath (it depends on how the level differential plays out.
But if you go with standard MMORPG raid theory, then resitance is as important as tactics when it comes to this kind of fight.
This chart is kind of hidden on the WOW home page (it's under character info rather than spells), but if you look at the bottom of this page is has level 50 sample spell resists.

How high can someone get their fire resistance with reasonable gear? I did a quick search on Thottbot and it looks like pure Fire gear would get you around +120 fire resist or a bit more?
Do you get any base resists? What about buffs?

Fire resist can be maxed. Airetnas has his maxed with fire aura.
