My guild and I started to wonder about how a priest would ever be able to heal the guy tanking Onyxia for the whole time, I mean... even if you spam Rank 1 Flash Heal you'll be out of many pretty guick...
So, how did the nurfed priests do when you killed Onyxia? :?:

It's all about the mana regen (spirit) ^^. Any long encounter like Onyxia, MC, etc it wont be about the size of your mana pool, but how fast you can regen your mana.

From what I have read on the conquest tactics page, is that they have multiple people healing the main tank. Basicly they continually heal him till they are out of mana and then another healer takes over, and the first healer sits down and regens mana till full. I heard this was the most efficient since you have to take that 5 sec rule in to account (Mana doesnt regen till 5 seconds after you last spell cast).

its abit smaller scale, but when my gg containing 2 priests know we're beginning a long hard fight we both usually heal at first, then when one priest gets to around 80% he stops casting spells while the other is healing. he continues till the first priest is at full mana, at which point we switch around. Most heal over time this way i reckon.

Hi!
I am a Shadow specced (36/15) Priest with around 235 Spirit, 6000 Mana (int buffed) and around 3300 Life. I am the only Healer in a fixed group with good teamplay (Warrior, Rogue, Hunter, Mage, Priest). At BRD and Dire Maul i had enough healing capacities but at the hard fights my mana runs really really short.
I want to stay Shadow specced because i think its better for PVP (mindflay, stun, silence, range, damage).
My Question now: Should i try to improve my Spirit or my Int stats to survive Stratholme, Scholo and BRS? How much Mana regen i need and what do you think about Items like "improve healing spells about 24 points" or "regenerates 5 Mana every 5 seconds" ?

Greetings from Europe ;)

If you want to be able to heal well, don't be a shadow specc'd priest.

a lot of the priests i know that want to PvP but are trying to help out in PvE as well have gone a 30/0/21 spec

just en0ugh shadow for silence but still discipline for healing... maybe try that out?

Just as I thought then
If I may ask, how much spirit have you been using on your encounters with Onyxia?

The answer is obviously "as much as possible. " ;)

You want to heal there over in Scholomance...?

Run a disc/holy priest as your twink or respec, any other way is a waste of time imho, and I think I know what I'm talking about, think that I am the most respecced priest on my server...

I 5 man healered every instance shadow spec'd before this latest patch that made things 'easier'. If you have 4 allies who don't suck, you can do anything.

I think silence spec helped a bit more in Scholo and Strath than my current Disc build.

For raiding though, the Shadow Spec is useless as most of your talent's aren't even able to be used.

I think most of our priests are in the 350-400 range as far as spirit goes with motw and spirit buff. All these new regen items kind of make it harder to measure, I use the new DM Channeling rod and a pair of mana regen rings in a lot of fights now, which have pretty lousy stats but are worth much spirit.

We got Ony last weekend, mainly what helped us best is having heal groups and getting mana regen/spirit gear. Group 1 heals till their at 70% then switch to 2, then to 3 then back to 1 and they should be back at 100%. for phase 1 and 3. Phase 2 is where it starts getting hectic, and 3 is pure chaos.

It's nice to have at least one healer with mass intellect on raid encounters to maximize the raid's ability to feed him mana. Innervate, mana tide (if horde), potions, whatever, your main priest is usually casting and doesn't get to regen much normally. His regen will come from other people atterying him and he needs the space on his blue bar to soak it all up.

Other than that, spirit is extremely strong and very central to your staying power. The mana over time items such as those out of Dire Maul are surprisingly powerful as well. My thoughts on priest builds, especially pvp-oriented healers, are covered elsewhere but a raid should always have at least one priest with the buff. 35 spirit on yourself is good, 35 spirit across 25 people with a mana bar is crazygood.

Oh, and just because I adore repeating myself:

1)You can solo heal any 5-man instance in the game without spending a single talent point, especially after last patch's nerfs to most of them. They're just not hard.

2)Shadow is not better for group pvp. When we're talking up to 3 people on either end yes, once you hit hte 5 man point group dynamics come into play and you won't find yourself nuking. It's not your job.
