Not much to say here...I'm neither pissed nor happy, but it's getting quite annoying to have no motivation in playing WoW, it's in times like this that people burn out...

Come back in 3 months ... a good source has stated that Battlegrounds will be out then.
Content Patch #2? Look for a major revamp of how Spirit works, as well as the reitemization of the high end instances.
You have been informed.

Are these good changes or bad ones?
I would love for spirit to be usefull

As I've read, Spirit will be redesigned to have different use for each class. Because of this revamp, Spirit should be useful.
So I also hope it is for the better.

If you knew the reaction you were going to get, you coulda saved yourself some time and just stuck a hot fire poker in your eye
I learned my lesson after the game first went live and any and everyone could post in the community threads. At least the threads were decent in beta when only the testers could post.

No Battlegrounds for months = no renew.. I liked this game so much too ;(
it sucks but theyre trying to get the foundation of the game in firm order before they focus on the end game content
even honor system would have been nice
something for killin a guy
bg is gonna blow anyway unless youre into heavy npc interaction
i justw anted a kill system penalty/reward

A kill reward system will just mean a huge zerg of level 60s wandering around ganking people and guards, wouldn't change anything.

Well would be kinda silly to add +firedmg on the firestone of warlocks if the +firedmg works not.

I've never even heard of that game... and I've played most of the pvp games out there. I still say that nothing can compare to the 8v8 style pvp of DAoC but I can't bash a game that I know nothing about.
I tell you what, you post a pvp vid here, doesn't have to be yours, and I will take a look. Then I will post mine and we shall let others decide on this generation-long discussion. For everyone else, it doesn't have to be one of these 2 games. If anyone wants to put some other game vids out there, for example Shadowbane or WoW, then please do so.
Don't wanna turn this into an arguement, but if a game has better pvp than DAoC then I really want to see it. :P

It's vee-hell!!
Anyway, DAOC was so close to having the next big PvP game. It's like reaching the top of the fabled mountain and then peeing all over the guru's face. Reaching utopia and taking a crap in the streets. So close, and then they just scrapped it and made this other game that doesn't even resemble DAOC. :(

Well said Sintor, I played on Mordred the FFA server for a year before I saw how retarded the PvP system had become with cookie cutter 8-man squads and assist trains. I continued paying them money though, for another year, and then they released ToA...

After much time wasted at work, I found the link I wanted. I played with these guys for a brief time when they rerolled on the pvp server. Amazingly organized, probably the best gank group in all of daoc:
http://headbang.net/freerps/freerps-3.zip
Large download, but shows how daoc's 8man groups function.
O.O That vid was my secret weapon... was gonna post it to shut up anyone who wanted to say something is better than DAoC :P Also www.headbang.net/freerps/freerps-1.zip and www.headbang.net/freerps/freerps-2.zip The first one is like right after SI came out, shows the skill of Free Rps even back in the day.
What ruined DAoC was not ToA: the artifacts and master levels. It was NF. The siege, the different realm ability system, the keeps, towers, and bridges. IMO NF was the worst possible thing that Mythic could have done, it ruined RvR completely.
On another note, my DAoC account is still up. I'm trying to get some people together to do a Thidranki 8man group. We tried it out already and our first night out we took on a 4v16 against mids with a Firbolg Hero, Lurikeen Mana Eldritch, Celt Druid, and Celt Bard. Its on Lancelot/Hibernia and thinking of doing a mid 8man somewhere too while waiting on WoW PvP system to come out. If anyone is interested my aim screen name is RudyLei. I'm recording and trying to make a video before I leave DAoC forever (unless someone makes a pre-NF player run server).

Personally, I hated TOA. Wasn't really the 8 mans that bothered me, mostly because I like group combat. Mordred was pretty fun, as you could solo PvP without a buffbot or roam in an 8 man if you chose. I was a hunter in Sin Vida, so of course I camped portals. I ran a blademaster on Hib/Mlf before/after Andred/Mordred. Then a nightshade. Then a Shar BM. On and on. :p
ToA really screwed up the "no time spent camping crap to RvR" vibe. It also launched a barrage of ill-conceived and extremely bugged Master Levels. I still remember the day that hib guild beat the hidden master level and Mythic's knee-jerk response of nerfing max ML abilities and all the zone loot. Still, they were very close to creating a fun PvP game. I still think an opponent cap based on weapon/defense would be hot. Would do wonders for emain zerging.

I used a couple of +fire dmg item (~ +40) and curse of elementals, but i did exactly the same dmg as before / without the items. and never more than max dmg of the spell. (uhm.. bad english.. im tired)
Neocron owned more.
I've never even heard of that game... and I've played most of the pvp games out there. I still say that nothing can compare to the 8v8 style pvp of DAoC but I can't bash a game that I know nothing about.
Uhm.. dunno if there are any vid of Neocron out. It was an underdog mmorpg and after like 2 years still more buggy than wow beta ever was. Heh.
Its Dark-Future Stuff. Cyberpunk Style. The difference in Fights was... look at a shadowbane "pro" vid. 8 people stand next to each other.. some big lightshow.. 50 newbs run there, die.. the 8 winner still dont move.
Neocron is first person shooter style. Stats/skills make aiming better increase dmg... but u still had to aim self. And hell, nothing can beat the coolness factor of flying drones in a battle. YES! Rigger!
Magic was also a part of neocron, called "Psi". Pretty much the same as every game, but there was no stun / disabler stuff. -75% movement speed was max, only heal over time - no instant. 4 simple classes. Tank (big gun, big armor), spy (sniper, hacker, etc), privat eye (everything u need) and psi monk (mage).
Neocron had a big sexy future city and an even bigger wasteland. Really big. I think the game had 9 (or more?) different factions.. depending on starting faction and kills the repution can change and allows a faction change later on. PvP was 100% FFA and it worked fine.
The Wastelands had like a dozen outposts. If you got your hacker to the core of the outpost, you could change control of it.. place towers and shield walls, etc (u had to build them and carry them over there). Did i mention vehicles like tanks? Oh well, outposts gave slowly money and points over time or smth.
Neocron was awesome because...
- FFA PvP worked, flexible gameplay.. no Faction A vs Faction B. The numbers, the strength and the players were changing. Allies and guildwars had a big impact on everything. No Safezones, but badass guards.
- PvE was completely worthless and nobody cared. Dungeons sucked ass (i dont even wanna call it real dungeons... u could sprint through them in under a minute without mobs). Unimportant. Most of the time you were PvPing. Inside the city (ghettos, i.e.), defending your level/farmspot, defending or capturing outposts. I dont remember walking somewhere without being 100% rdy for getting backstabbed / attacked by a red name. And reds always attacked. Still i dont remember ANYONE EVER using "gank" or "zerg". Skill > Numbers
- PvP-Penalty that hurt, but didnt make you fight "only when you can win". You could drop a random item from your quickslots. Then a max hacker (they suck at fighting) had to run over there and hack your belt to grab the gun. Some kind of rezz sickness (that kept your implants from working) was also in.
- Outpost wars really really really rocked. You all port to the zone, some guys camping the GenRep (teleport, rezz place), the others rush in, hack the outpost, place towers and get into position. Rigger is scouting, etc. Next the port some scout in and they get killed in half a sec at the teleport. Then they take teleport to next zone and its going to be hell of a battle to defend that outpost. Drones flying around, missiles being launched, invisible snipers stalking around and buffed tanks rushing in. And the important thing: the hacker. Can he reach the computer and hack in time?
Too bad reaKKtor sucked and patched it to death. I left the game when cloak device was in. I played the hybrid, rifle, medium range. Every battle the same. other hybrid or spy stealthed behind you.. shoots at you until 10% left.. stealths away.. heals up.. comes again... after you nearly killed him 15 times, you are out of buffs and he kills you with some luck. What? No stealth? n00b.
Im trying to find some video.

Wait? Retarded? Daoc's 8man pvp has been the best group pvp system ever. I'm going to assume you are some no-name stealther that cried when 8mans rolled into your greyganking session in magmell and wiped you out.
I would agree with you Daoc's 8man pvp has been the best group pvp system ever, if Mordred hadn't completely tainted my view of pvp in the game.
After the first 5 or 6 months of Mordred, when most of the guilds who couldn't go the distance had left there were only a few serious guilds left. Only a few guilds running 8man groups. I was in one of those that took 8mans to the extreme, cookie cutter 8mans as I call them, the perfect group setup.
I enjoyed it for a while, but the little things got to me. Fighting the same people day in day out, with the same 8man, that used the exact same tactics, /assist allowing the savages to virtually go afk, buffbots, Oddins Eye.
What about the keep system? All relics for more months than I can remember, safely locked away and guarded by lvl 50 alt aoe/pbae characters camped inside the keep 24/7.
There was always a noticeable gap on Mordred between the average guild, and the guild who did absolutely anything to win, ToA just made this gap even larger by implementing ML's and Artifacts. After we finished it was mere childs play to keep just about every other guild on the server from doing the same.
okay neocron - man talk about one hell of a successfully immersive environment. I played beta for .. a month? .. before I realized you could go .. outside the city. Yes, incredible no? Well there was a lot to do. Lots to explore. I didn't participate in forums, I just explored it on my own.
I was astounded the first time took the subway all the way to the outzone, and walked around in this decrepitude. When I finally found the outer airlock, I don't know what I expected but open sky was not it. It was unexpected and startling.
Then, they added vehicles. Very nice and fluid movement. One of the best pvp moments I have ever seen was when 4 reds were at a vehicle outpost trying to camp people getting onto their speeders, and out of the fog slowly comes rolling this hulking, creaking tank with spotlights blazing - the 4 reds scatter in panic but it's too late - the tank blows them to shreds.
It was a game with some really interesting parts. I wish the devs were more together, though. They seemed like they were just kind of incompetent.

That sounds a bit like Planetside though I don't think I would consider that an MMORPG. Planetside isn't an ffa though, and there are bases on continents that 3 factions fight over with ground troops, ground vehicles, and air vehicles. Planetside has gotta be one of the best pvp games I have ever played but its real hard to compare it to a game like DAoC.

I played Planetside during Beta and the first month of retail. I loved it, mainly due to its extremely close resemblance to Tribes (which I have played for years, and still do)
After getting rank 20/5 in the first month though, I didn't see any reason to pay a monthly fee for a Tribes clone.

I never played tribes but have heard alot about it. I really liked Planetside for its PvP system (FPS) and since you can make a character and go straight out and fight. Good times.

Neocron was more (MMO)RPG than (MMO)FPS. You had Monster to kill, Items to farm and levels to gain (well, more Ultima Online Style.. lots of shooting and you get better at shooting, lots of casting and u get better at casting - no experience crap).

Khalaio
03-15-2005, 05:27 PM
yes, i played DAoC from its release to SB release, DAoC always had major class issues, wasnt balanced the entire time i played it
also if you played a caster you were completly screwed if you got hit unless you had MoC up after that was implemented
not saying playing a shadowzerker pre-LH axe nerf wasnt fun, or my healer before/after CC was somewhat taken down to a reasonable level, you could do alot more w/ a single group in SB than you could in DAoC
i think my favorite thing about RvR was the name broadcasting

thats a big file
while im waiting i have to say though, DAoC didnt offer many of the things i loved about SB
being able to roll into a guilds town and break their shit, and kill their members untill their stuff breaks added alot to the drama of SB, something you just cant get in DAoC
and as far as character customisation, you just didnt have the options in DAoC, you had 3 lines as a caster and a few weapon options as a melee type
shadowbane just offers a ton, an example being the warrior class, you can make 12 warriors and have none of them play the same way, hard to do that in other games (granted you cant do that w/ every class, but there are lots of professions and w/ diff base class's, and every class had a viable build or 3, it just offered alot more)

I have to agree with Shadowbane being the best PvP game to date. I just wish someone could make the content of WoW, endgame of EQ, and PvP of Shadowbane in one game. Maybe WoW will do it after a few expansions by letting guilds have keeps on PvP servers that are destroyable. True enjoyment in PvP comes when you have something to lose.
