Hunter S. Thompson's ashes will be fired across his Colorado estate by a cannon, in keeping with his final wishes. The journalist and author committed suicide at his secure compound in Woody Creek on Sunday. He was 67. The Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas author wanted a simple, but bizarre funeral, during which his body is cremated and his ashes blasted across the ranch, according to his lawyer George Tobia Jr. Thompson's friend, journalist Troy Hooper explains, "I believe he wanted to be shot out of a cannon. I understand it's in his will. That's Hunter's style. That's how he would want it. He was a big fan of bonfires and explosions and anything that went bang and I'm sure he'd like to go bang as well."

I still wish he had gone out in some way a bit more epic than shooting himself.

Wayde Sinclair,

Thus far, the preparations set forth in your will are moving forward with excellent progress, however there are a small number of problems with the aforementioned plan that must be addressed before your timely demise. First, jamming two ounces of your ashes up my urethra MAY cause blockage that would inhibit the passage of the 'gush of ashsemen' which you requested that I ejaculate into Mary Tyler Moore's anus. Second, the memorial rose garden to be erected in the front lawn of Kylie Jennings' abode will need a few modifications as currently, his 6'x6' tract of land will not allow your flower-mural of a middle finger to be seen from outer space without magnification of some sort. Finally, I will not allow Wake's mother to have unprotected sex with your corpse pre-cremation for fear of PSTDs (Postmortem Sexually Transmitted Diseases) so please specify which flavor and color of condom you wish to be affixed to your genetalia. If you are able to rectify these small discrepencies, we can proceed with your plan upon receipt of the specified funds into the unmarked swiss bank account with which you were supplied.

Sincerely,
Ernest P. Verbannen IV Esq.

Cult writer Hunter S Thompson committed suicide while he was on the telephone to his wife. The Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas author shot himself dead at his Colorado home last Sunday during a conversation with spouse Anita Thompson, who heard "the clicking of the gun". The widow told local paper Aspen Daily News, "I was on the phone with him, he set the receiver down and did it. I was waiting for him to get back on the phone." The 32-year-old says she did not know what had happened despite hearing the loud noise of his gun firing. Thompson, 67, had repeatedly spoken of committing suicide in recent months, his wife told the publication. He was in the kitchen when he shot himself in the head. His son, daughter-in-law and six-year-old grandson were also in the house. Anita Thompson adds, "He wanted to leave on top of his game. I wish I could have been more supportive of his decision."

As far as I know, his son was not present in the residence and his wife was not home, so no his family was not there.
