View Full Version : Warrior key setups?

Greetings,
I have limited experience with warrior (so far only lvl21) but from the information I've gathered lurking here, official forums and other sites warrior seems to be a class that very much relies on some way to quickly access the right weapon, stance for your skill asap. Such as switching from a 2hand to 1hand-shield for a quick shieldbash when enemies cast whatever spell and then quickly switch back etc.
I was wondering, what kind of macros or other setups does everyone have? Do you switch manually meaning you press the stances to switch, or you hotkeyed the macros or even you made macros for skills like when you press the skill once you'll switch to appropriate stance/weapon and then press again for the skill or how do you do?
I am just looking for inspiration on my own setups. This is not asking what talent builds, equipment choices you have or similar just how do you manage your skillbutton setups?
Thanks in advance!

I have stances set to f1 f2 f3. My attack key is not set on the hotbar, but rather a nouse button that is right by my thumb.
"Twitch" skills like disarm, execute, MS, intercept, hamstring, etc are all set to the 1-4 keys in their respective stances.
Things like demo shout, BS, WoF, bloodrage are all on my sidebar.
It is a good idea if you have a mouse with extra buttons to set those to what you find appropriate. I have 2 mouse buttons on the side of my mouse, they should be set to MS and execute, but instead I have them on moun/dismount and attack. Pressing my middle mouse button shoots my gun =)
I'd refine my hotkey setup and post a screeny or something, but I've retired my 57 warrior for the time being and have rerolled as a mage.

Interesting. But you must make pretty big preasure on your mouse while moving forward and strafing.

I'd say the pressure on my mouse and left hand is balanced. When I first started gaming back in Quake 1 days, I thought the W,a,s,d config felt very unnatural. So i just laid my fingers across the keys and pinkey landed on shift, then A, S, C, and spacebar. Started binding around that. I got use to using D as alt-fire in games, which is hard to do when mouse 1 is fire. Running backwards with C and trying to alt-fire with d was really hard in UT, then i got a mouse with more buttons, so alt-fire is now on mouse.
When I started up WOW i wanted to keep the same config, at first having forward on the side was weird, but I got use to it very fast, and so did one of my buds.
I could probably find a program to bind mouse look to side, and forward to mouse 2 now, and it would be more like my fps setup, but I'm not gonna go out of my way to get that done when i'm already settled.
EDIT: OH by the way my side mouse is bound to AUTO-RUN not forward. So I just tap the side button when i wanna move forward and untap it to stop. Quick taps to make small moves.

alt 1-3 stances,
1-5 charge, ms, rend, hamstring, execute, etc. the quick access stuff, set appropiate to each stance (ie: 5 = execute in battle/fury, but disarm in defensive, 2 = ms in all stances, etc.)
alt 4-piercing howl
alt 5-demo shout
alt 6-blood rage
alt 7-battle shout
8 and higher on both normal and alt are set to more seldom used stuff, ie: mocking blow, half hour abilities, challenging shout, shoot gun..)
wasd movement, q/e strafe
t - auto-attack
r - pummel
tab - target rotation
basically my entire control is done by left hand, while right hand on mouse at all times for looking around/target selection/refined movement with mouse buttons, and auto-run on 4th mouse button.. I should probably use 5th mouse button for something.

Not really.... hand rests on asdw, pinkie on shift and thumb on alt =p.
Same conf I had in EQ/Q1-3 for the last 10 years or so, I hardly think about it anymore I just react without thinking of what combination I need to click.

To each his own, try out your own build and see what works, there is no cut and paste solution to things like this.

Yes! I am surprised at the number of players that still use wasd, it is inferior in every way.
As for my setup I use esdf for movement, with s and f being strafe. I spend 90% of my combat time with right mouse held down, allowing me to turn with my mouse, and when I need to click on something I can continue to strafe with my movement keys.
Mouse 4 set to defense stance, mouse 5 set to toggle between beserk and battle.
In battle stance:
1 charge, 2 execute, 3 overpower, 4 ms, 5 hamstring, 6 shield bash, 7 rend
Defense:
1 beserk stance for pvp (pve I put bloodrage there, but it is always on my sidebar anyway) 2 taunt, 3 shield block 4 ms 5 disarm 6 shield bash 7 rend
Beserk:
1 intercept, 2 execute, 3 whirlwind, 4 ms, 5 hamstring, 6 pummel, 7 rend
I have 9 set to Q which is Piercing Howl in all stance, 0 set to G which is demo in all stances, - set to A which is sweep in battle, sunder in defense, beserk rage in beserk.
Z for mount, W for target, R attack, B shoot ranged
F1 first aid target self macro
F2 spider belt
F3 potion
F4 food
Various any stance shouts and abilities on popbar.
Weaponswitch macros on left sidebar.
Not a big fan of key combos like Shift-key to use something.

I was used to r,d,f,g movement, but I cant help myself. In WoW I have to use w,s,a,d for some unknown reason.
Maybe because of 1,2,3,4 buttons. They are easily reachable from w,s,a,d position.

And what about 5,6,7? Easier with esdf, and you get q,a,w for extra hotkeys.
What really sells it for me is the fact that esdf movement, your hand is in the exact same position as when you are typing.

I have tried all. W,S,A,D E,D,S,F R,F,D,G. And it just didnt feel right, haha.
Also WoW corrupted me to not using invert mouse. Now I cant play old 3D games where it was set to upside down and cant be changed.
What the hell Blizz did to me?!
Edit: Any chance you are Dashiva from Ragnarok? =P

No its not. I got 12 buttons i can use (24 whit shift, 36 whit ctrl and 48 whit alt).. i dont think i will ever need more then 48 hotkeys.
And i would never change away from a finger stance i started whit back when Wolf 3d was the newest and hotest FPS game out ther.

The real trick to dominance is to get a keyboard with left-side function keys. 10 more easily-accessible buttons from wasd or esdf for the win.
Good for team binds in quake, too.
Hi, i just read this and have 2 Questions :)
First, can you tell me how the macro looks to toggle between 2 functions?
Because it looks nice and i want this too but im a little noob in this macro things ;)
And second i wondered how to give the same key different functions just by switching the stance, it would be nice if somebody could explain me this too.
thx and sry for the bad english *sigh

Movement W,S,A,D
I ABSOULTLY HATE the default movement key settings of WoW.
WASD sucks gonads.
I've switched my movement keys to E, S, D, F. Your natural hand position for typeing is the Home Keys, so why not use that? I use to use the WoW default movement....but it drove me nuts to have to always shift my hand position from the Home Keys to the left one space, it was so unnatural. Also E,S,D,F is the default of most FPS games, so it was a natural move.
Another reason why I prefer the E,S,D,F is because it opens up Q,A,Z for more Key bindings. You also get closer to the rest of they keyboard too for other Key binding.
I use A as my Melee Attack button. This allows me to remove the Melee attack button off my Buttons Bar.
