View Full Version : Warlocks, do you have a purpose?

My real dilemma is choosing between warlock or priest as my main char.
They both have their stuffs etc, but on average it doesnt really seem that warlocks bring anything critical to a group. Sure dots, fears, curses and health/rezz stones are NICE, but they dont really do much dmg etc.

I dont care about wtfpwning, i dont really care that much about 1v1 pvp, what I do care about is having a purpose in a group, both pvp and pve wise. I understand that having a rez-buff on a priest is really nice and handy, and that a well placed fear can save the group some incomming dps etc.
What do you DO in a group that cant be done better by a <random class>

Basically, i've played daoc for a long long time, and even though i wasnt a hybrid myself(and even though warlocks arent really a hybrid per se) seeing how hybrids got the sharp stick all the time in both pvp and pve was no fun.

I really don't get how you say "sure i dot-fear-soulstone, but what about dmg??!!"

If you wanna deal Dmg clearly warlock is not the way to go. roll mage.
(although i've seen 'locks dish some serious dmg)

It is all about which roll you like, i as awarrior always like a good warlock in a group, health stones on a dif timer than pots, rezz stones on the priests, DoT, and a pet that improves my atamina by 55 AND dishes some serious fire DMG.

I, personally, think that warlock is the more fun class to play that priest.
but than again thats just me.

:D gl finding the right class for you.

At upper lvls having a good warlock around is great. And FYI, they do deal nice dmg. Don't believe a lvl 10 posting and whining that he can't deal dmg. You'll do plenty as a warlock, and their dot's are huge. Personally, I'd take a warlock hands down over a priest as a char I'd enjoy playing.

Warlocks in nurfed have a very important purpose, I believe this is the utmost vital 'Amusement' Purpose.

I think they summon too, and yell at people who screw up. Oh they are pretty good with legal matters too.

ah yes i forgot summoning. better hope there are already 2 people IN the group with you and you have extra shards lying around (which honestly isn't a problem in PVE, but when you're attacking a city or ganking it is fucking stupid).

i have a 54 warlock and pretty much have no real desire to play him even with the shards in pvp (from HONORABLE kills). They have to completely revamp the shard system for me to go back. sure pve is nice, but who the hell wants to do that day in and day out?

as far as DPS, you can get amazing dps with hellfire and lots of mobs around.

just dotting and shadowbolting though, i find it hard to top 200-300 dps. i guess this is good - don't know what a mage can do, but rogues with their amazing 500 sustained dps (i think he was mid-40s) piss me off.
