View Full Version : Druids ~

I haven't seen much discussed about druids on this forum.

I recently started playing a druid, while putting my level 48 warrior on hold. I just hit lvl 20, and got panther form.

I have a few questions.:
At level 20 I seem overly powerful. I can kill every other class without a problem, except maybe warlocks due to fears and dots hitting me so much.

How do level 60 restoration specced druids fair?

I have all points into restoration thus far, with 1 point put in to give me the entangling roots when struck spell.

I have no problem killing most classes, even paladins at lvl 20.

I know paladins become damn near godly at 60, and warriors can get mortal strike later in the game.

So in the hands of a decent player, what is a high level druids biggest weakness?

And btw, the only class I shapeshift against is another druid, or a mage to escape root spells, and poly.

Thanks for any pointers on class weaknesses.

class weaknesses have to do with a plateauing out of dps in cat form, along with a huge lack of armor. our best grinding build becomes useless post lvl 40. as far as restoration spec goes.. thats what you should be at lvl 60.

lots of people will argue that druids are a useless class blah blah, but we do have our own role in the game, and every 40 man raid needs 2 or 3 of em.

You won't get an accurate picture of what the Druid is really like till you hit 50 plus, it's just a really tempermental class and it varies at different levels. My biggest problem all along has been that shapeshifting is this class's distinct feature, like how totems = shaman, or pets/dots = warlocks. Sum the Druid up in one word and it's suppose to be shapeshifter. And shapeshifting -sucks-.

And btw, the only class I shapeshift against is another druid

The way I would play a druid is to shapeshift in every fight. Here is a list:

Mage - Cat and Shadow
Warlock - Cat and Shadow
Rogue - Bear and Shadow
Warrior - Bear and Shadow
Hunter - Bear, Cat, and Shadow
Druid - Bear, Cat, and Shadow
Priest - Cat and Shadow
Shaman - Travel form
Paladin - Travel form

Alright being a level 52 druid myself, I can say that some of your ideas here are pretty much off.

Against a hunter you do NOT want to use bear or cat form, they can fear you and you wont be able to keep them from getting range on you. Against a hunter you should hibernate the pet, root the hunter, stand just out of melee range but to close for him to shoot you. Use starfire and root over and over until hes dead. Hunters are VERY easy for a good druid to beat.

Paladins are beatable, you use bear form against them. The fight will take forever for either one of you to win, so unless your up for it then travel form is a time saver.

You should not bear form against a rogue, they have to many stuns and high melee damage even for our tank form. The best strategy against a rogue is to use travel form + moonfire to kite them around. I find rogues very easy wins with this tactic, ive had rogues cuss me out for using such a "cheesy" tactic. It takes practice to perfect, but there isnt much they can do. If your bear form then there is much they can do.

Mages, cat is good your correct here, except you also want to moonfire spam them aswell, its funny how well that works on mages =)

My ignorance comes from not having a druid over the level of 13, but I can imagine.

Wasnt really thinking about the hunter thing cause I've never had to go up against that, your tactic sounds very useful, can I meet you in game? :P

And I think I would be quite angry too if I got owned by such a cheesy tactic as that if I were a rogue.

And a good druid is an easy fight for a good hunter. ;)

Heh im not so sure about that, ive never lost to an even level hunter before, and even if the hunter had a spider belt to get around my roots making him 100% useless, I bet I could hibernate his pet, stay in his face (letting him melee me) and just moonfire spam him to death and use natures swiftness for instant fulllife when needed. Would love to try it some time but ive never met a hunter with a spider belt on so my hibernate+root trick always owns them heh =)

Vs. rogues, please be wary that they have Sprint, and also have other item means of increasing their speed temporarily. And one snare poison on you means you have to flip out of cheetah form and back into it, all the while giving them more free hits. This is very risky and I wouldn't bet my life on it.

I almost ALWAYS start a duel vs a rogue in bear form, just to weather their opening barrage of cheap shot kidney shot BS.

Vs. a hunter... Even with a spider belt, you're still going to be able to root the pet with Nature's Grasp at least, and that'll last a while.

Beyond that, abolish poison conveniently and repeatedly removes viper sting before it's too bad. And moonfire + innervate and heals is just too much for most hunters I've fought so far.

It's really a brain dead fight for me at least.. is there something a hunter can do that shifts it dramatically? FD+ trapping and scattershotting even seems to affect the fights little in my experience.

Be skilled for one. You need to duel Sintour imo.

I just got back from a long sojourn. Well I was gone 9 days anyways.

Thanks for all the useful discussion.
