x800 pro vivo (450 bucks) flash the bios to XT:PE (very easy and works 100% of the time) and viola you have a 600 dollar vid card. Buy an aftermarket vid card cooler (Arctic Cooling VGA silencer is the bese) and bam you got a top end vid card =)

Go for a x800 or x850.
Hard to get, but definitely worth it.
Or else a 6800 GT or ultra. But try x800/850!!

in anycase both cards will run wow smoothly, but i will say go for the x800 since i'm an ATI fanboy. I have a r9800 pro and run it at 40 fps even during 40-60 players on screen (althought as i have uppgraded from 512 to 1024 mb ram during my wow playtime i can tell you that ram is the top priority in this game, no more laggy IF around the AH).

I rock the geforce 2 mx 400 still, and probably will for atleast another year.
Who needs a good video card.

But the world is so bootiful with a nice card.
I have to echo: 1GB of RAM is CRITICAL to a smooth running game. Don't run with anything less, even if this sacrifices a new vid card for an old one, so you can buy more RAM.
Sadly, I only have 512, but hope to get to 1GB tomorrow (you better have PC3200 this time, Office Depot!)

Protaganist, why shop at Office Depot, instead of online?
And to original poster.
I would say ATI card as well.
I have
2.6 ghz pentium 4 - fsb 533
1.5 gig of 333mhz ddr dual channel
ati radeon 9800 pro
my game runs 40+ fps all the time, with maxed out visuals.

well, i used to play FPS's competitively before WoW, so i tried to keep up to date on the latest video cards on the market about possible upgrades. Truth is, I am still satisfied with my ati 9700 pro. I still manage to run extremely smooth on WoW in 1280x1024 and I really don't see a reason to get anything more beefy. I have talked to several people who have x800's and they say they get about +10-15fps more than me.
Trust me, I can tell when im getting low frames and tearing and al that, and I notice none with WoW.
Just trying to save ya money ;)

with my 6800GT (3500+ 939, 1GB Corsair TwinX) i get 50-99 fps@max gfx
it doesn't really make a difference whether you go for nvidia or ati..
ati: x800pro vivo(!) -> flash to x800xt + get a ATI Silencer (Arctic Cooling)
nvidia: 6800GT -> overclock to Ultra speeds + get NV Silencer (Arctic Cooling)

If you're on a budget grab a 6600GT ($200). I can run WoW full graphics 30fps up to 60fps (I can still OC it further and get those numbers higher with the right cooling). If you're not playing anything graphicly intense (EQ2 yuck) theres really no sense buying a $400+ video card.
