View Full Version : Druids - Classes at 60

Hello.

In one week EU Retail will start and I am still not sure what my class will be. In beta I played a Warrior and a Shaman to 60, I played a friends 60 Priest and I played most other classes 30+.
The problem isnt that I dont like most classes; if I could I would play one character of every class. But I dont feel that some classes are as much fun as other after everybody hit 60 and PvP is "high-end". It feels like some are just not needed.

I really like the druid and I am going to play one most likely. But already at lvl ~40 Group-PvP I found out that animals forms are a waste of mana. Druids are superior healer, so I spend 90% of my time healing and healing and healing and there is no way to change that: As long as a class can heal and has mana, the class has to save people from dying. Just think of a 5v5 Arena Battle..:
If I play a priest, I get sheeped or everybody tries to kill me - i fear, shield myself, run around, whatever
Now if I pick druid and 5 people charge at me... im dead meat. I could start a battle like this in catform and stealth away and after they attack someone else I start healing, root someone and... well.. heal.. heal.. heal. If I didnt miss anything, Druid will not gain any disabler. Sleep only on beasts and well.. root vs melee chars. I cant even root in booty bay or black rock mountain or any instance.
While I can heal as good as any priests, my offensive abilities are crippled. Starfire is a real joke, Moonfire is a dot. Just wait for the indoor battleground "druids bane".

Dont get me wrong, Druid is great and im having fun (pre-40) in PvM and can beat most (all but shaman) classes in duels. But it just doesnt feel that I will do something good for my guild, when I pick Druid. And its all about helping the guild.

Druid is supposed to be some kind of hybrid, but the concept just doesnt work in high level PvP. Ever saw a 60 Druid in Group PvP running around as bear or cat? Serious I would kick the bottom of any guildmember that would run around as teddy while the others die. If the manacost for morphing would be really low, it wouldnt be a problem to morph around and heal inbetween. But the Manacost is HIGH and I just cant afford to morph around every 10-20 seconds.
And serious, there is no other way to play a druid beside healer. If you skill mainly balance you got a crippled elemental shaman and if you go feral, you ...errrr... well ... suck.

Maybe I am wrong - other experiences or oppinions?

as a warrior, my nr 1 targets are druids

they just root and root and root and root and root with out ever breakig earlier or me ending up getting resists vs it or imune as hapens vs fear and sheep

seems you can root someone forever and thats really gay =(
hate druids =P

its really about using the right thing for the right moment. druids dont have an entirely defined role in pvp, unlike other classes. sure you can argue that this makes us marginally crappier in whatever we do than other classes, but you can look at the pure utility of the class.

most group pvp ive been in, ive acted as a beacon for my group. i eliminate the static dps of a rogue or warrior with root, break a rogue with faerie fire, destroy mages with the moonfire spam, heal my group, throw in a nice 5 second long bear stun, other random stuff...

the versatility of the druid suits pvp really really well. it is one of the strongest points of the class.

everyone seems to think of druids as such a weak class, but most of the decisions they base this off of are things like having a free action pot on them, or trying to drop a druid in group pvp first (next to impossible btw).

our forms also have other handy abilities. bear and cat form are immune to a priests mana burn. all forms are immune to poly, including travel form, a switch into any form breaks any kind of cc...

never have i been useless in pvp, and i almost always end up doing the most work :D

as you mention yourself, druid is a jack-of-all-trades, they can do everything, but they aren't really good at any off them.

Druids are crap. They are.

Their class ability is shit. Shapeshifting is worthless. It's like if Shaman totems were unusable, or if Warlock pets were unusable.

Took me 60 levels of optimism with about one month of raiding, tons of PvP time to agree with Scorch.

We're fundamentally fucked.

In group PvP, your bane.. your absolute counter is dispel. There isn't anything you can do about it, either. HoTs? DoTs? Roots? Innervate? Nope! Beyond that, spell interruption is crippling because it waxes all of our healing AND control options.

In PvE, your only possible role is as a healer, and you still lack about 2k mana (adequately geared) on the real healers. Your quick patch heal costs almost 900 mana. If your tank is mortal struck, you will lose all your mana or he will die flat out, because you can't shield him to help him ride through it. Your group heal is an utter joke. Having to channel that piece of trash for 10 seconds means you aren't healing people who are tanking the mob that's doing the AOE in the first place.

Did I mention the inability to deal with the massive aggro your quick heal generates? Good thing you have that extra 5% damage reduction over those priests.. in caster form you're going to need it. You can always go bear and hope a warrior pulls the mob off you so you can heal in time. I'd recommend it, even.

Hibernate works on dragonkin for the first half of UBRS. That's nice I guess.. though the ones that are actually dangerous are Immune. A nice FU to druids. At least you get a chance at being able to sleep one of the general's highly resistant guards.

Faerie Fire is usually a waste of a debuff slot.

All of that nonsense and I didn't even have to talk about our feral forms being next to useless.

Yeah, like a 1/10 chance to land it on those bastards.

At least in a balance build that i used to have I was able to crank out some damn good dps (220 on average), and got a funny little aoe out of it too.

Druids need love :(

While as a priest I LOVE having a druid at my back in an instance (innervate makes me happy inside and their healing is superb when they don't need to spam their fast heal) their role in pvp is to spam entangle and hope enemy priests/paladins aren't paying attention to the guy rooted and dying. Heh. I also imagine PvP's burstiness makes druid heals much, much harder to use properly. I feel a bit lame when I panic and flash heal twice when I could have GH once, a druid will have to deal with chewing through 1/3 of their mana pool when that happens to them.
