View Full Version : Fallout 3
Ziocho is back and dislikes the amount of forum activity, so I am going to start a fallout discussion.
For all the people that do not know what Fallout is, it's one of the best games of all time and that is not an opinion, so you need to go play them before the third comes out if you want to ever be known as a gamer.
The first two Fallout games were developed by a company called Interplay which sold the rights to Bethesda (the company that made The Elderscrolls series: Morrowind, Oblivion, etc.) who is currently creating Fallout 3.
Here is a 9 page article showing a little bit of what Fallout 3 is going to be like: http://www.mrzioto.com/games/fallout/3/article.html
Here is the current website which only features a teaser: http://fallout.bethsoft.com/teaser.html
And here are the new official Fallout forums: http://www.bethsoft.com/bgsforums/index.php?showforum=32

big fan of the original two, and i loved the tactics version too. cant wait for this release.
played a bit with the technical demo a while back, crashed almost immediately, but i definitely got a feel for how the game was gonna look and operate. very promising stuff.

It's a behind the shoulder RPG which is turn based and pretty difficult. It can be a little hard to get into at first, especially because it's reppin' the 90's graphics but once you get into it, it's a game full of amazing game play, things to do, and easter eggs.
yes, pretty similar to PS:T. slightly less story, slightly more action. equal awesomeness

I'm just afraid of the new engine being more of a 3rd person view compared to the old isometric view which may destroy the combat system that was so amazing in the original two.
For those curious of the old tech demo for the unreleased version of Fallout 3 that was being developed by Black Isle Studio.

I'm definitely excited. The change to FPS/third person doesn't bother me a bit. The old combat system and isometric view were fine, but the setting/sense of humor/story and freedom of choice were the important features of the originals.

gears of war converted me into a 3rd person fpser. however, this game does indeed look great, never played the original two but the plot looks interesting from what i've read about it.
Here are the screenshots cropped out of the article I linked in the first post: http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/album_cat.php?cat_id=104

I understand what you mean - I think it is pretty lame how the NMA community is flipping out about how the look or engine of the game aren't the same or some ridiculous things like how the characters outfits aren't "tight" like they were supposed to be. (If you look at the screenshots, the outfits are pretty loose)
Although I think Bethesoft is the best company for this because they learned a lot from Oblivion and they are all about making immersive game play (which is a big part of Fallout).
This screenshot (http://www.nma-fallout.com/forum/album_pic.php?pic_id=2387) makes me want it to look this good. (you'll have to enter the link in a new window)

Lol, people complain about the most mundane things. I guess a lot of Fallout fans are also star trek geeks.

I've always preferred 3rd person to first person to some extent. Certain fps games have made me enjoy the game in a way that I don't think would've been possible in third person (Doom3 and Dark Messiah come to mind).
I bought Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter2 for PC after reading some good XBOX360 reviews only to find out it didn't even have a 3rd person option (xbox version is third person). I was planning to play in first person anyway, but it was sort of puzzling for a moment when I thought I'd try out third person and couldn't find an option or key bind for it anywhere.

I like 3rd person shooters, I used to play Rogue Spear on CWN and MSN Zone was kinda mandatory to play 3rd person to be competitive. Ah, good old RS times

Heh, me too! But after a while all the servers had third person disabled.
I remember the 747 level and there was a trench behind it you could crouch in with a sniper rifle. Good times using third person to find people while in the trench then using first person to pick them off, hehe.

Yea, 747 was fun. I like bunkers, too, but to many players glitched through walls on that map.

Nosir. BG2 was great, but Fallout was greatererer. More er's = more win.
BTW, wouldn't it be more fair to compare BG2 to Fallout2 ;p

This is a fucking single player game... Apples and black dildos dude.
But anyway, im pretty much going have a boner for the next year waiting for this game. I've been a huge fan of the IP since the original Fallout and i cant wait to cut faggots in half with a laser chaingun or gauss rifle their cocks from 100 yards away.

I hope they do the whole construction set thing ala Oblivion. Hopefully they'll also learn from their mistakes with oblivion on how to support a mod community. It's amazing the things people have done with that game despite the lack of communication/information/support from Bethesda. Not to mention some short sighted design decisions that make doing certain things extremely difficult.

That was the most nitpicky negative and depressing preview I've ever read, for any game. It is one thing to express certain concerns that maybe key elements of Fallout wouldn't make it through, but to get upset that the super mutants didn't look exactly the same or the brotherhood of steel followed, "American soldier stereotypes." is really ridiculous.
Their final impressions were critical of Bethesda for both not following exactly what the previous Fallout games had done and for not innovating at the same time. Then drawing the conclusion that "In short, it will likely be an interesting game for the average gamer who has little to no knowledge of the Fallout games, but for the run-of-the-mill Fallout fan I doubt the experience will be anywhere close to the originals or even worthwhile at all for some." Pisses me off because I would consider myself a pretty big fan of the Fallout games and I've liked everything that I've seen. The only negatives and complaints that people make are subjective to the extreme and border on elitist fanboism. I can accept disappointment that the game moved to first person and real time combat, but denouncing every model that isn't perfect or discrediting the combat system as a bad combination of the original Fallout and a typical Bioware combat systems is just being a dick.
These guys are fucking worse than Morrowind fanboy/Oblivion haters. Holy shit Oblivion didn't have as many unique books as Morrowind, shut the fuck up.

who cares if the preview itself was good or not, they showed some awesome screenies and explained some nice little tidbits and details of the game. anyhow, thats just my opinion, perhaps heed a bit of my advice, dont read previews for the preview :P i mean be honest with yourself, do you really think that many people in the video game press actually have a clue of what makes a good game?

I was lead to believe that preview was exceptional compared to others. It was the same info with the same screenshots and a bit of "HOLY SHIT THEY USED TOO MUCH BLOOM AND THE BROTHERHOOD OF STEEL ARMOR ISN'T SMOOTH EXACTLY LIKE THE POWER ARMOR IN FALLOUT1"
TBH I fell betrayed.

oh i feel a bit of that too ;) im just hoping that if Fallout 3 turns out crappy, that hopefully it will atleast give me some sort of semi nostalgic ride. kinda like Sonic, the food is pretty much trash, but the feeling of those old drive in movie places melts me :D
As long as Bethesda does not fuck up the modding again like in Oblivion, the Fallout fanboi nazis will be cooking up an unofficial "fix" for the game a couple months after release.
Although the pace of the game does sound retarded with the combat system they implemented.

I agree with Ziot. I just hope they do better with the modding than they did with oblivion. Although if you haven't check out oblivion mods lately, you should see what people have done. Some of those guys are ridiculously resourceful.

Eh. With any preview of the game that isn't a complete suck-up, you're going to run into the fanbois who have been following the game for an extremely long time. They did a good job showing that some of the selling points for the game are not actually going to be that good, a good comparison would be with Stalker, they tried to sell the game with their AI system as their main selling point, but the AI was actually one of the worst parts of the game.
The bloom is a good thing to point out because Oblivion had way too much, which made it a tad bit unrealistic; when you're in a nuclear fallout and the atmosphere is supposed to be destructive and dark, you don't want to exaggerate the lighting.
I don't really care too much for the "armor" being different, but they have a point when they're saying that Bethesda really thinks they're making a legit follow-up to the series and then completely blows off simple details like the armor. Imagine if the orcs and goblins in Lord of the Rings had a different appearance in each film.

It's not that there are amazing modders out there, because the mods a couple months after Oblivion's release were already fixing a lot of the problems, it's the fact that the modding was extremely limited and that the more powerful modding wasn't capable until some people hacked the fuck out of Oblivion's client; even after all of that you still cannot use custom animations. ( no dragons :( )

That's only the tip of the iceberg. Bethesda doesn't even communicate with the community at all to answer questions and doesn't spend any time patching the game to address problems with game play, balance, the interface. Not to mention additional modding capabilities. Compared to Bioware with NWN, and Obsidian with NWN2, Bethesda's commitment to their community is appalling.

My problem with Bethesda is that if you are making a sequel, make the sequel, not just a game that shares the same title.
I have noting against FPS game that Bethesda is making, just dont name it Fallout 3....
