Let me first speak of what I wanted to accomplish. I wanted to make a semi unique build that will be beneficial in PVP and in instances. The Disc/Holy build accomplishes this, however it leaves out mindflay, which is GREAT in group pvp and in instances. Being that I am a priest, my primary job in PVP is going to be 1.) healing 2.) dispelling 3.) Staying alive 4.) Dotting.
Because I am doing a Tri-spec, I will be missing out on a few spells I wish I had (meditation) so I tried to make up somewhat for that in other spots. Let me give you the build and I will explain why I picked certain skills.
Discipline Talents (21 points)
# Unbreakable Will - 5/5 points
Increases your chance to resist Stun, Fear, and Silence effects by 15%.
# Improved Power Word: Shield - 3/3 points
Reduces the duration of your Power Word: Shield's Weakened Soul effect by 15 seconds.
# Improved Power Word: Fortitude - 2/2 points
Increases the effect of your Power Word: Fortitude spell by 30%.
# Mental Agility - 5/5 points
Reduces the mana cost of your instant cast spells by 10%.
# Improved Inner Fire - 3/3 points
Increases the effects of your Inner Fire spell by 45%.
# Improved Mana Burn - 2/2 points
Reduces the casting time of your Mana Burn spell by ?.
# Inner Focus - 1/1 point
When activated, reduces the Mana cost of your next spell by 100% and increases its critical effect chance by 25% if it is capable of a critical effect.
Holy Talents (19 points)
# Improved Renew - 5/5 points
Increases the amount healed by your Renew spell by 15%.
# Holy Specialization - 5/5 points
Increases the critical effect chance of your Holy spells by 5%.
# Spiritual Healing - 5/5 points
Increases the amount healed by your healing spells by 10%.
# Improved Healing - 4/5 points
Reduces the Mana cost of your Lesser Heal, Heal, and Greater Heal spells by 12%.
Shadow Talents (11 points)
# Blackout - 5/5 points
Gives your Shadow damage spells a 10% chance to stun the target for 3 seconds.
# Shadow Focus - 5/5 points
Reduces your target's chance to resist your Shadow spells by 10%.
# Mind Flay - 1/1 point
Assault the target's mind with Shadow energy, causing 75 damage over 3 seconds and slowing the target to 50% of their movement speed.
This build relies heavily on maintaining a pw:s so as not to be interrupted during casting. the shorter timespan on the weakened soul is a lifesaver. Also if you get in a real predicament, you can always psychic scream
Lets start with discipline. Which is where I am having an internal debate with the effectiveness of choosing innerfire and manaburn over a matyrdom/focuscasting type build.
# Improved Inner Fire - 3/3 points
Increases the effects of your Inner Fire spell by 45%.
- On paper this looks good, and in practice it tends to help a lot of the time. Being as most decent pvp'ers are smart enough to attack the healer first. Having extra armor gives me some time to heal myself, cast a pw: s. However, some real experienced pvp'ers know to dispell a lot to take away buffs. On my server (Ner'Zhul) they dont tend to do this. Also Inner Fire is always helpful in instances in case you get charged.
# Improved Mana Burn - 2/2 points
Reduces the casting time of your Mana Burn spell by ?.
- Worth the 2 points? maybe.. maybe not. Wasting mana on manaburning when you are suppose to be healing is simething that I am in debate about. It CAN be useful, however a priest normally is suppose to take on a support role in pvp. And wasting precious mana on mana burning can be mana you use to heal your warrior or mage.
In experieced PVP, dispells are a reality so keeping on buffs and pw:s's are mana dependent, so I might do my discipline tree something like this:
discipline Talents (21 points)
# Unbreakable Will - 5/5 points
Increases your chance to resist Stun, Fear, and Silence effects by 15%.
# Improved Power Word: Shield - 3/3 points
Reduces the duration of your Power Word: Shield's Weakened Soul effect by 15 seconds.
# Improved Power Word: Fortitude - 2/2 points
Increases the effect of your Power Word: Fortitude spell by 30%.
# Martyrdom - 2/2 points
Gives you a 100% chance to gain the Focused Casting effect that lasts for 6 seconds after being the victim of a critical strike. The Focused Casting effect prevents you from losing casting time when taking damage.
# Mental Agility - 5/5 points
Reduces the mana cost of your instant cast spells by 10%.
# Focused Casting - 1/1 point
While active, you no longer lose casting time from taking damage. Lasts 8 seconds.
# Improved Inner Fire - 2/3 points
Increases the effects of your Inner Fire spell by 30%.
# Inner Focus - 1/1 point
When activated, reduces the Mana cost of your next spell by 100% and increases its critical effect chance by 25% if it is capable of a critical effect.
Reaching Inner focus and getting mental agility were my primary goals in the disc tree..
HOLY TREE:
Pretty straight forward. Wanted to get the important skills to help with my healing. I did not see a need to get improved flash heal, as my points in the disc and my style of play (constant pw:s on me) dont require me to have the non interruptable flash heal.
# Holy Specialization - 5/5 points[/b]
Increases the critical effect chance of your Holy spells by 5%.
-The crit increase is vital I believe. I always try to heal my members at the most mana efficient time. utilizing the full heal.
# Improved Healing - 4/5 points
Reduces the Mana cost of your Lesser Heal, Heal, and Greater Heal spells by 12%.
- Anything over 10% I consider significant. lets a 300mana heal is now at 264. Multiply that by 5 heals an you saved yourself 180mana. that 180 mana saved + your ticks makes a difference in PVP and instances. I would have liked 1 more point to get the 15% but alas....
Shadow Tree:
The extent of damage we do in PVP AND instances is our dotting. I was debating throwing down points in improved sw:p however I think that lowering the opponents resistance of shadow spells as well as having a 10% chance to stun is vital. I dont know how many shadow specced priests are out there but that blackout procs a decent amount of time. and it can buy you sometime as well as help out your group. Mind Flay is a MUST have and that is the whole purpose of any points in shadow tree is o get that. The Shadow Focus also helps with psychic scream I believe, so that they don't resist it. Psychic scream comes in handy all in all when youare in a tight situation.
There ya have it. If this is a copy of somebody else's build on here I REALLY didn't see it and give you credit wehre credit is due. Tell me what you think and what improvements can be made to it. Thanks a lot
