Frosty the Snow Man!

Alright, got a question for all the mages out there - how viable is a pure frost build? It's been talked about and talked about on the main forums, but wanted some Nurfed and nurfed-reader feedback.

My build I'm planning:

Improved Frostbolt Rank 5
Permafrost Rank 4
Ice Shards Rank 5
Winter's Chill Rank 3
Improved Frost Nova Rank 2
Piercing Ice Rank 3
Cold Snap Rank 1
Improved Blizzard Rank 3
Arctic Reach Rank 2
Frost Channeling Rank 3
Shatter Rank 5
Ice Block Rank 1
Improved Cone of Cold Rank 3
Frostbite Rank 5
Ice Barrier Rank 1
Frost Total: 46

Improved Arcane Missiles Rank 5
Arcane Total: 5


My reasoning for frost build:
1) Lot more mana efficient, more casting (more consistent damage), +frost damage has nicer effects, lot of chances for crits
2) Super Blizzard anyone? And yes, I've seen it crit.
3) To be different?
4) Survivablility is a lot higher
5) Frost really only functions if it's a pure build, since all the frost talents affect each other.

Anyways, I'm actually starting out as frost *gasp the HORROR*. I'm level 18 right now with 5 improved frost bolt, 2 winter's chill and 2 improved frost nova.

Any suggestions/comments/feedbacks/flames/marriage proposals?

You will seriously need Improved arcane explosion. Read alcaras' sticky over.

I've ran through many places with a Frost mage friend who decided to try out my spec, and it's working fine. Blizzard can kill entire patrols in the Lyceum before they reach the group - it's not 100% needed. If the shit has hit the fan and people are scrambling, it's nice. If you're calm, everyone knows how to handle the situation and you're prepared - blizzard owns it big time.

Lyceum is a bad example, the mobs have extremely low hp. Try AEing with just blizzard on elites and find out how long 15 seconds really is (weakened soul). IAE doesn't need sheild to work.
