View Full Version : Best way to deal with Retaliation as a Rogue?

Hate this skill with a passion. I hit so fast with daggers that it is quite literally the bane of my existence. A number of things have been suggested to me:
Run
Run until it wears off
Blind, run until it wears off
Evasion (and get raped by Overpower, smacked the guy who suggested this)
Vanish, Sap until it wears off (though I've never tried this, does Vanish work the same way on player combat flags as it does on a mob's?)

Are there any I'm missing? Has anyone found some to be more effective than others?

Also, will it still return an attack if you're behind the Warrior? Is it affected by "You're facing the wrong way" like normal melee strikes are?

Be sure you run away before you use vanish, so he can't see you if u're stealthed...you can sap him if you want but i just wait till retaliation is over.
Sap does work the same on players then on mobs....if you want to stay in fight , use sap , if u don't and first want to heal up just run away and use vanish and go stand somewhere on a mountain or tree or whatever u like to

gouge, run away.

All you need to do is avoid the person for 15 seconds. Less since you won't notice it right away.

gouge...you will be attacked for that so u better just can use sprint to get away for 15 secs

the idea to gouge is so that the warrior can't use hamstring or piercing shout on you. Not to mention if I am fighting a rogue, I'm slamming hamstring/piercing shout on him first thing.

I would think in a situation like that Blind would be more effective than gouge, since it gives you 6 more seconds to get away and won't get you hit by Retal.

The description of the Retaliation ability clearly states 'Target must be in front of you' so running behind and/or stunning and attacking from behind is an entirely valid method of avoiding retal.

I remember once i dropped a 57 and 60 rogue in about 5 seconds literally thanks to retal. + overpower, Good times...

1) Vanish and sneak away (just make sure you are not dotted)
2) Gouge/Stun/Go behind their back :>

Like Matkun said, you won't notice it right away so the easiest thing to do is to blind. It lasts 10 seconds so retal should have run its course by the time the warrior comes out of it. It will take him a few seconds to get his bearings and attack you again anyhow.

Probably only viable for those who don't mind getting fadeleaf for blind reagent.

A guildmate dropped 8 people at once with Retal.

Anyone willing to take a screenshot of what the Retal animation looks like? I've only encountered it twice and both times I wasn't paying enough attention to notice.

Gouge. If they come out of it still retaliated, blind. Or better yet...riposte :)
