Hey,
EU Retail will be here soon and my friends and I are planning to play together most of the time. Now our problem is that some of them want to be rogues...
That will work easily till we get past Scarlet Monastary, but then I won't think we'll make it.
We're looking at a group that's like this:
Priest - Holy/Discipline
Mage - Arcane/Frost
Rogue - x
Rogue - x
Shaman - Elemental/Restoration
To even survive one blow from Uldaman and up we're gonna need a Warrior, so that's 1 less Rogue or 1 less Shaman. ( Sheep is too precious to me )
Priest - Holy/Discipline
Mage - Arcane/Frost
Warrior - x
Rogue - x
Shaman - Elemental/Restoration
Would this work out? And if not, give some arguments. Gotta convince them :(
Thanks

Why is a rogue bad in Instances...they can pull out ppl , sap ppl and if the other races will get attacked (warrior) he can strike from back with Backstab (for dagger rogues), and great in poisoning so they don't run away...or am i wrong?
as long as they go with a talent spec that includes improved sap, then they can be just as effective as your poly.
sap tends to last longer than poly even.
your problem will come much later than SM when you start doing instances with no humanoids, or worse, all demons (demons can't be sapped OR poly'd)
If one of the rogues goes warrior instead, it will be a solid group.

Why does Rogue suck that much in PvE/Instances then :<

that is the exact same group we will be playing in EU retail :D
We play with warrior/rogue/pala/Priest/mage right now and we get alongfine.
switchin the pala with the shaman (our pala wants to be druid or shaman, since he wanted a lil more fighting than healing i said he should roll a shammy) should work even better:
More group buffs, totems better secondary healer ability than a pala.
should be fine...

Rogue's are fine in lot of instances, but try sapping in Maraudon, or stunning/sapping in the last few rooms of Uldaman. Sunken temple has a limited number of humanoids.
As explained in the other post, other classes offer everything we offer, (dps), and more.

I really wish that I had a priest in my core group of friends, but I dont.
Still the main group that we have done up to Mauradon to is
Warrior (me)
Rogue
Hunter
Shaman
Mage
The lack of extra healer is problematic at times, yet the help of the Hunters pet, we have an extra mini-tank that can hold aggro pretty well.
The only issue so far was with the princess, but our alch wiped up a nature protection potion and then it wasnt even hard anymore.
We definitely need a priest, and a most of us have actually started a priest alt, but we are all discouraged by how underpowered the class is in the teens.

I played a rogue up to 48. Its hard for me to find a group to go to Maraudon. Actually I haven't found a group willing to take me. I might still be too low but not sure since the highest mob in there is only lvl 51.
Anyways I have decided to switch to a Priest. My guild needs one and I am hoping it will be easier to get instance groups. Don't get me wrong I love my Rogue, but not being able to get in groups for instances sucks. Plus there is alot of rogues already on my server.

i' m a 51 rogue on archimonde, takes a few minutes to make a group myself :p even when i'm the lowest lvl.
High dps, stuns all the time, etc are valued :p

Regarding the rogue in our group.
He is definitely the best player in our group. We mainly use him for clean up on the none elites, while I tank the elites and with the mage and the hunter and pet is on another elite.
The shaman mainly heals, but does get in a good swing on the main target.
This worked well with the satyrs and plants in mauradon.
Usually by the time, the first target is dead, I switch to the hunter target because it will have pulled off the hunter bear's. The rogue is finishing his 3rd non elite off, moving to the 4th. The rogue usually helps finish of the final elite.
We are a little worse for wear and there is a bit of down time, but it works for our group.

Like everyone else i love my rogue (lvl48) but as everyone says its hard to get a group if you'r not making one by yourself.
My power levling group on EU Retail will look like this:
Rogue
Rogue
Warrior
Shaman
Priest
We are aiming for huge damange and lots of crits, may god be with us
We're currently blowing through uldaman with a group that is usually :
Warrior (repata)
Rogue (me)
Rogue (andorion)
Priest (envie)
<someone else> (warlock, callidus - shaman warne or others)
Far from having problems, we're taking the place apart.

Without any type of AE in a group you'll probably have some difficulty, and while
sap tends to last longer than poly even.
Sap can't be refreshed, while poly can, making it important to always kill the poly last (at least poly the sap). Maybe I'm biased, but I think a mage is pretty much essential for higher level instance, or at least some sort of AE generator. That said, the main topic of this thread, was a about rogues, which I think are very viable in pve (less so in maraudon because of mob types, but Temple, BRD etc are humanoid), but at the same time it will be difficult exclude the whole trinity (warr, mage, priest) from any group.
Our standard group is typically:
Warrior
Priest
Priest
Rogue
Mage
It may be easier for us to AE effectively with 2 priests, but it has allowed us to clear dungeons at earlier levels than most people say is possible. (Uldaman at sub-45)

Back when my crew was leveling up we ran through places like Uldaman pretty quick as Nox was saying. Looked something like this...
Shaman (Abominable)
Priest (Tng)
Warrior (Skurvu)
Rogue (Me)
Random class
Those top 4 classes were really all we needed to run just about any instance that was at or near our level. A mage is always nice to have, but we didn't have a usual 5th member.
Rogues can and will find a place in any instance group up to and not including the big bosses like Onyxia or Molten Core mobs. Anything that has an AE basically. Rogues are a big mana sponge and there's nothing we can do about it. But hey, someone has to loot the Rogue stuff.
My best advice is to find a decent size guild once you are a higher level and hook up with them to do instances. That way you are virtually guaranteed a spot.
