I see people arguing Sword build is better, dagger build is better. But the thing I dont understand is that, since the game allows you to change weapons during battle, why not start the attack with high crit ambush, switch to sword in main, starting SS/Evising away?
It also looks like in your sticky above, there isnt a build suited for high ambush opener with high dmg ss/evis? Maybe there can't be one due to lack of skill points?

That's what I do - dagger and one-hand sword which I switch situationally.

Because the damage of dagger backstab > sword/mace sini. Why macro to inferior damage? HOWEVER, you may not always be able to backstab to make use of the superior damage. I haven't had ANY issues missing backstabs in small game PVP. But as for battlegrounds.... who knows. The deciding factor of even needing swords/maces will be how easy it is to backstab in battlegrounds. My updates are on hold until then. But if you're mainly doing around 5v5 PVP or less, theres no need to macro over to swords since there's rarely any problems backstabbing in small group PVP.

I think what he is trying to point out, and i get this from having to play a gimped-warrior, is that you can open with dagger/ambush, then use a weapon switching macro for high dmg sword + sini, then another macro if you want an in fight backstab. This is really just warrior mentatliy rubbing off a rogue, the question is, is it practical? This sounds most effective in increasing your effeciency in PvM.
the ONLY reason people argue for one or the other is because of the combat tree.
if you plan on going down the combat tree to dagger, mace, or sword specialty(currently bugged, but will be great when they get it fixed)
then you will be picking dagger, sword, or mace, and pretty much sticking to it.
(you wouldn't want to spend 5 pts in mace mastery and then use a dagger in main or offhand... same if you picked sword or dagger mastery, you're most likely going to be using two of the same type of weapon to take advantage of the mastery bonus.)
now why does that matter? because you don't have enough talent points to get cold blood (a MUST), a weapon mastery, and imp ambush/opportunity...
so what does that mean? It means to get the most out of spamming Sinister Strike, you need a mastery.. and to get a mastery, you give up improved ambush and opportunity.. which means you're not getting the most out of your ambush/bs.
because of this limitation, most rogues pick whether they want to ambush/bs, or SS spam.. not both.
SHORT ANSWER: (if you know me at all, you know this has to come last)
you don't have enough talent points to maximize the effectivness of both dagger and sword/mace. So you pick one, maximize the talents for it, and stick with it.

Oh ya sorry, I was speaking PVP only. Solo PVE it's great, you can use a PVE build for daggers, then macro over to swords after every remorseless ambush. But for group PVP you would still be only backstabbing.
