View Full Version : Warriors no longer best tank?

From what I've been reading, and a few friends who have the beta have comfirmed it. Warriors are no longer the best main tank. A few of my friends say they will usually look for a druid to be the main tank as they hold aggro better, and can hold aggro on 5+ mobs with ease. Is this true from anyone else's regards?

The better question is, will blizzard fix it?

On the beta forums a few posters mentioned if the warrior is spec'd full protection with devistate, they can somewhat hold aggro. But as of now tanking paladins and feral druids are the main tanks.

Right now in beta: everyone in blues/greens.

Warrior in blues = Druid in blues.

Warrior in purples > Druid in purples.

I can go into why, but if you want be succinct, there it is.

I'm curious as to why. And info on multi-mob tanking would be appreciated.

I'm curious as to why. And info on multi-mob tanking would be appreciated.

Apparently in a lot of the new instances (the 5mans) that are 60+. There are 5-7 mob pulls. Due to the huge dps increase that a few classes have received, warriors cannot keep a high aggro level on all mobs. Now having said that, a druid spamming swipe and other abilities can hold aggro on all 5-7 mobs much better than one warrior could. Also unless a warrior is spec'd protection (right now respecs are 1c so who cares) they have a _difficult_ time holding aggro due to the dps increases of most classes in comparison to a feral druid or paladin tank.

Since ferals druids are that much better at tanking now, druids are sought after more for tanking than a warrior. Tanking is the warriors bread and butter.

But the reason why I'm posting this here is I'd like some confirmation from some of the better warriors. My friend is your typical warrior in MC purples, Quel Serrar and has the Ony/Rag epics. Casual warrior if you will.

From my limited experience in beta, I'd say this - the instances and other small-timer stuff is better tanked with a paladin/druid for the exact reasons the others said: they can hold aggro better on multiple mobs. If you're talking raiding or anything where it's just 1 mob, the warrior wins still (unless it's undead).

Chances are all the warriors crying are terrible and weren't around for release when warriors were the "most gimped class in the game" *cough*

Same shit, new crowd. In the end warriors will still be the #1 foty class.

Yes, the multiple mob thing. Fewer mobs and more warriors to tank them in raid instances. 1 Bear is going to hold aggro better in an 5-man 8 pull by Tab/Swipe spam. In raid instance you have at least 2 warriors, and Blizzard is not going to scale linearly and, say, throw 16 mobs at you in a 10 man.

But mitigation too. Bears are a one trick pony, they can raise their armor pretty quickly but that's it. Right now a Bear could have 18,000 armor and a Warrior 14,000. Even assuming a best case scenario and they remember to put purple Bear gear in, 8 months down the road the Bear will have 24,000 armor and the Warrior will have 20,000 armor. The difference is the same but the mitigation difference significantly less. And the Warrior still has Block, Parry, and the 10% defensive stance bonus, none of which Bears have or will ever make up for.

And weapons. Warriors are still using TF at 70. Bear aggro generation depends entirely on how hard they hit, and since they're wearing lvl 70 +str and +ap gear, it means they're basically there already, purple gear won't add that much more of either. Warriors aren't in the same boat.

I'm currently just level 63 so i don't really know how it's on the "bigger" instances, but what i felt is same as you tank in full t2 in brs, i simply didn't get enough rage to do anything, i'm currently fury so i also don't have defiance which may make a difference.

even in coilfang/slave pens which got some nasty 5-7 mob pulls i got some real problems to keep the mobs on me. in hfc it isn't that hard, just switch on dual whield or put on full dps gear but if you do that in the pens you get some serious problems :D

Do dps and let the bears and pals tank, put on dps gear and make some fun :D

I've had no problems holding aggro so far in any of the 70 instances with the 5-7 pulls, or Karazhan. Warrior's are still better tanks.

Err wait.. what I meant to say was I can't hold aggro at all and druids and paladins should tank now, so I'll just go ahead and dps.
