start off with great chance to crit with ambush (with 75% chance to give 2cp) ~400 dmg(no crit)-1k dmg(with crit)
gouge instantly after ~50dmg
good chance to crit backstab ~300-700 dmg (you can throw in a blind immediatly after this and backstab AGAIN ~600-1400 dmg)
coldblood + 4pt evis ~1300 dmg (or 5pt if you blinded ~2k dmg)
in 4 specials (about 7 seconds, 5 of which they are gouged) you have done upwards of 3k dmg (or closer to 4.5k+ dmg if you blinded)
If you happened to miss EVERY crit, you've still done ~2k(or around 3k with blind+backstab) but this is so unlikely it's rediculious.
EVEN BETTER... you can use vanish, prep, and do the entire thing AGAIN immediatly after that... AND ON TOP OF THAT, you can do it in a 2v1 situation since you have the utility of imp sap to take one person out of the battle and not sacrifice stealth (and since the burst dmg is so phenominal, even the sap nerf doesn't hurt your 2v1 chances much)
since you've maxed imp backstab, malice, lethality, and opportunity.. you can spam bs for good sustained dmg in instance runs, and you also have the utility of imp sap (which alot of non-rogues think is essential to a rogue for instances). you have a choice in boss battles: either open with cheapshot+bs+bs+5pt cb evis, prep, repeat. (good stun duration as long as the boss is not immune to stun), or you can open with a similar sequence to the pvp sequence to get crazy burst dmg. (instead of gouging, just wait a few seconds for another bs)
there are a few downsides to this build:
such as when soloing high defense/high health mobs, it lacks the sustained dps of a seal fate build, so if the mob isn't dead at the end of the burst dmg, it could take a while. (sword/mace SS builds also generally have higher sustained dps than my build)
I've also seen many arguements for "stun lock" builds (using cheap shot as opener), but in practice, they just don't work very often. Every mage I talk to says the same thing, "they stun me for a while, but they just can't do enough dmg to take down my mana shield and still kill me before I come out of stun". priest's are singing a similar tune, "when they use cheap shot on me, it gives me plenty of time to spam my escape abilities and call for help. They just can't do enough dmg while i'm stunned"
This build remedies that problem by using stuns that don't interfere with big dmg moves. (cheapshot wastes and opportunity to ambush, kidney shot wastes an opportunity to evis.. gouge and blind don't waste any opportunities)
Because of the energy consumption, it also gives them only a split second to react in between stuns before it's over. (no downtime waiting for more energy without the target being stunned)
One downside is this build really only starts to come into it's own during the mid 50's.
it's very viable as a mage-grinding solo build before then, but as far as pvp is concerned, the major tools for this build all come together during the late game.
