View Full Version : How would you rank classes in order of grinding efficiency?

With Rogue being the only class I've played past lvl 10, I can't comment on anything other than rogues. From what I hear, and what I've experienced, I'd certainly say that rogues are one of the best grinders with the least downtime. But as I said, I can't say with certainty having never played another class to the point of grinding.
I intend to find out though, at least with a mage, my first alt. From what I've heard so far, mages don't seem to be too hot at grinding. I'm only lvl 8 right now with it, but I have downtime every 2-3 battles, though I guess even rogus can't really grind at that low of a level.
So how would you rank each class in grinding/leveling ability? Without a colossal amount of time to play, I don't particularly want to play a slow leveling class. Where would mages fit in the mix?

A lot of this is based off observation rather than experience. So someone who plays these classes, tell me if you agree:
From fastest to slowest:
1. Rogue/Hunter
2. Shaman/Paladin
3. Warrior/Mage/Priest/Warlock
I think AE Mages can grind much more quickly though. If they have the right MOBs in sufficient quantities, they make it closer to Rogue/Hunter speed at that point.

I see, that sounds about right from what I hear as well, with the possible exception of the warlock. I always hear how they have so much HP and Life Tap their mana up, and they have as little downtime as rogues. I guess they just can't kill quite as quick.
Why are hunter's so fast?

I could be playing my lock wrong but I have down time more so then the rouges around my level. Maybe its cause i save healthstones for when im close to death?

I don't know the hunter nuances, but the good ones I watch have no down time at all. They just move from one thing to the next.

Hunter is fast because the vast majority of it's damage comes from it's auto-ranged attack, not from special shots. Even when a hunter runs out of mana (which they do, quite quickly, if they spam arcane/serpent sting, etc.) they can still push out close to their maximum DPS.
From what I've seen it slows down dramatically in the high 30's/early 40's because the pet can't tank anywhere near as well anymore. Even with max rank of growl on my pet, and having it do nothing but spam growl, I pull aggro with just basic auto-shoot on my lvl 38 hunter.
