View Full Version : Questions for combat dagger rogues

I've been building a alt on the new server, and I've joined a pretty decent guild. It looks like we will be flying through ZG/MC once we have enough people at 60/in blues.

Anyways, I'm completely clueless of what to shoot for as far as gearing up a rogue. I believe different builds suggest different approach in gearing up. What are good AP/Crit/Hp/Hit/Etc. values to shoot for using ZG/MC/BWL/World Dragon gears? I've been trying to set up a gear plan so I know exactly what to use my DKP on and stuff.

I started raiding as a rogue in BWL and tried to get as close to 30crit, 1000ap, and as much hit as possible without sacrificing the other two.

Since you'll be starting off with ZG, for the most part those values will be lower, but you can easily hit 30crit, 780ap and 10hit while having 3.5k hp if you take the time to collect all the leather drops as well as get the rep required to make the rogue quest items.

If you like to pvp a lot, the rank 10 gear gives about 28crit, 760ap, 12hit but 4.1k hp, so its up to you with how much you like to pvp and how long you're willing to wait to get an item. Generally I don't worry about hp at all because we should rarely be hit in the first place aside from ae damage.

The most important item you could possibly get out of MC is Aged Core Leather Gloves although you could easily get Mugger's Belt from DM as a substitute. Once you get ACLG's, it'll stick with you pretty much until AQ40 or Naxxramas.

From there, you can replace your gear with Nightslayer, get some decent daggers, a quick strike ring etc. and you'll be fine.

Wow, thanks for the reply, it was just what I needed. I think I will go for rank 11, if not rank 10 for the gear you suggested. Since my new rogue will be on the next brand new server, I plan on leveling to 60 in 2 weeks and honor grind while waiting for others to catch up.

Anyways, in your profile I have noticed you are Engineering/Herbalism. Did you initially take Engineering/Mining to 60 and dropped mining for herbalism? Any reasons behind this? I guess now you just buy mats from AH for engineering stuff?

herbalism is bar none the best money making tradeskill in the game.

You really can't beat having 2 gathering skills unless you're lucky enough to corner the market with an enchanting or blacksmithing pattern, but I wouldn't recommend picking up those two professions until you're 60 and have a lot of time and gold to throw away at it.

Like Ralrra said, Herbalism can make you a ton of money by either supplying end-game raids with herbs for pots (flasks & resist posts mostly) or you can be nice and supply your own raid for free.

I picked up Gnomish Eng. for pvp (Grenades/Bombs), utility (Gadgetzan Port / Jumper Cables) and goofing off (Death Ray / World Enlarger) and because I don't need skinning anymore. Also yes I did buy the mats off the AH to level it up as well as farm some on an alt that has 300 Mining.

However, you could also go with leatherworking / skinning and make your rogue some decent pre-60 gear though which is what I almost did, and then drop one and get Herbalism which is very easy to level up.

The Rank 10 Armor in addition to some Reputation Items from Battlegrounds and Zul Gurub can get your rogue pretty good equipped.

I recently joined a small raid when my rogue hit 60 and so far we've only cleared Zul Gurub and did the first boss of AQ20 once. As you can see in my profile I'm sitting at 3993 HP, 10% to Hit, 24% Crit and 807 Attackpower with a Dagger Combat Spec and my Equip isn't all that great.

Rogues are pretty easy to equip Pre-MC. Oh, I also took Herbalism and Alchemy as professions. After doing Engineering on one of my alts I figured that pots are of more use in PvP and you can give them to your group. Free Action Pots/Minor Invul Pots just blow any grenade out of the water.
