View Full Version : Holy or Shadow for BC?

Anyone feel like me and think disc holy priest are getting close to nothing what was needed for PvP with BC previewed talents?
They'll still get crowd control as easily and wont have any escape abilities, while shadow priest are gonna be able to cast heal nearly as efficient as flash heal while in shadowform along with reduced mana cost for mind blast and mind flays.
It seems to me like raiding priest who likes to PvP every now and then are gonna have to choose between being efficient for PvP or PvE, not both anymore.
Pain suppression and reflective shield sounds appealing, but with shamans on both sides, shields are gonna get purge as quick as they are being cast, and if pain suppresion is a magic who can get dispelled, it sounds more like a PvE ability rather than a PvP one.

Before the baby crying begins, i'd like to see the new stuff in practice, all we know atm is what they gave us, but i'm pretty sure i'll be disc either way.
shadow mend is nice but it's not even nearly as efficient as flash heal. sm heals 900hp for 425mp at lvl 70 or sth, flash heal does ~885hp for 380mp at lvl 56.
looking at reflective shield, yeah it's true that it will be purged, but you cannot purge immediately afters sth is cast so even when you're mashing your purge button like mad that warrior hitting on the shielded player will probably eat 50% of his own crit swing before the shield is purged.
to rate a pve specc i guess it's necessary to know the overall design of the new encounters blizz is going to implement.

doesnt mean you have to ignore and have no opinions on the talent they're broadcasting.
I might be wrong but if blizzard is giving this info before it goes live, its prolly so that people can make up their mind on whats to get and what not ))
If pain suppression is dispellable I'm thinking a 31 disc/30 holy build
*edit* I think shadow definately got some props, like 15% less mana for mind blast and mind flay...not bad

dont forget the ability to heal while in shadowform. that means nearly 50% dmg reduction with the proper gear and the ability to heal yourself, damn!
But I agree blessed resilience looks pretty awesome, sucks they put it so deep in the holy tree, I'd gladly swap it with blessed recovery )))

here's the shadow build I would go with:
http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/bc-priest/talents.html?5002310133000000000000000000000000000 0000050232210351120051541
I'd prolly end up taking one point from shadow to get 2/2 martyrdom, but my build would be something similar to this.
someone on foh mentioned using your new execute(ish) ability with spi tap to help get some uber mana regen going your way...
also, say you have 400 spi, you kill a guy, for 15 seconds you now have 800 spi and 200 +dmg and healing...not bad
just a thought may take points out of mental str for surge of light if Fheals and Gheals can proc the effect

wouldn't you want improved Divine Spirit for the 10% dmg/heal?

I think you are missing one of the most interesting aspects of SM.
With that talent, priests become the first and only class to have heals in two completely different schools of magic, meaning that they can immediately resume healing after any lockout/non-silencing interupt.
If pain surpression is dispellable, I think I may very well be going shadow.

yep, and I feel like paladins will become the main healers after BC, because according to blizzard, all classes will get an HP buff, and PvP fights isnt suppose to go as quick as it is right now, so pally slower heals will have time to kick in, meaning more room for us priest to spec shadow and get more PvP abilities (blackout, faster fear, silence) along with better DPS increase and still have some quick/efficient heals along with better tanking abilities ))))

Depends, I think shadow is better than holy for pvp even from a healing standpoint because of the survivability of silence, quicker recycling fear and 15% reduction from SF. However I think disc outshines both.

Thinking about dropping my warrior and re-rolling priest together with a mate for TBC - Disc/Holy and Shadow, seems nice for the 2v2 arena. Mana might be an issue though.

As it is right now, I totally disagree with you. Right now, if your getting that 15% reduction from SF, it means you cant heal yourself or your group, making it non useable ina group environment, secondly, 4 second on fear is meaningless imo, specially for an alliance priest for who fear is close to useless on most fights.
Silence has a 45 second, while I agree its a nice ability, its dispellable and has a short range, which you still dont want to go into when your fighting in a group.
Atm, Disc holy totally outshines Disc shadow for group fights. However, I feel like it will be different when BC comes out, since priest will be able to heal while in SF, using 2 schools of magic, making counterspell much less damaging for you and your group.

vampiric touch, lol.
I'd go with a disc holy build finally, I think this build would be really cool
http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/bc-priest/talents.html?5002320133500100000002044513313200020 30300000000000000000000000
shadow mend would have been really awesome for priest who likes group PvP, The shadow priest community cried so much about it they are getting a PvE ability instead, yet they're thanking blizzard for it.

True.
I'm pretty happy with the new Enlightenment talent though. :)

What happened to shadowmend?
was removed and replaced by vampiric touch because of bad shadow priests complaints who wants to keep playing bad.
By bad, I mean drop 1, 2 or 3 players while their group is going down, then be oom, sacrifice themself to res with full mana then rinse/repeat.
