Mages pvp and pve

whats better for pvp fire or ice and also for pve? Making a Mage but im not sure what to get fire or ice.

depends on what role you want to play in a group.

Fire is the way to go solo initiatially. You want to make sure you get arcane explosion eventually for instances (its a must for 40+) so 18 in arcane is a requisite. Go fire until 30+ at least though, because the damage output compared to frost is significant enough. Its much smarter to respec as you go, because it is really not that huge amount of cash to respec. Ice will increase your surviveability in pve and pvp, but you may find you have a hard time vs. ranged. I am currently 18 arcane / 16 frost and can destroy melee based classes, but hunters tear me a new one.

Frost is a much more versatile spec and in all honesty I don't see that fire is incredibly viable, for endgame pvp, you're really just a hunter with less hps. Frost's damage output with 33 frost will probably be incredibly, but I guess time will tell.

Arcane explosion, like said above, is definitely a must. Not only for instances but for questing as well. I've quested side by side with Khalaio(sp? =p) where he just rounded up a bunch of mobs and AE'ed them all while I was still hammering away 1 on 1 on the same mob I was fighting.

What would be best for PvE from start though? I don't see Arcane helping much then.

I went fire/arc intially.. I plan on respecing to frost around lvl 40. Frost = 8) for pvp.

At the same time, I plan on avoiding pvp situations till 40-45. This is the 3rd time I have rerolled, so I need to desperately catch up to everyone :lol:

Once I hit 40 or 45ish, ill prolly respec to frost.
